Yes, the poor Japanese did not do anything to warrant any retaliation in order to be stopped. None.

And to back stab the another issue, it was the US that helped rebuild Japan, while they maintained their sovereignty. Go figure. The Evil US. Could you imagine if it was the UK that got in charge of that? It would probably be another middle eastern story, like Iraq, or Palestine-Israel

I always think back to Einstein when the debate over the use of nuclear weapons arises:
“I know not with what weapons WWIII will be fought, but that World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones."
"The unleashed power of the atom has changed everything save our modes of thinking and we thus drift toward unparalleled catastrophe."

We marvel at our technological brilliance and intellect but fail to develop and maintain the humanity that such a responsibility demands.

Am I against the use of nuclear weapons in WWII? Not necessarily.

Am I against this sterilised revisionist version of history that says that it was a 'righteous' decision? That there was no other option that the course of action taken? Without a doubt.

You cannot directly attack and annihilate 100,000 civillians and justify taking the moral high ground. I am not saying it was not a justifiable decision, merely that it wasn't an honourable one.

Edited to add: As for your comment on suicide, I struggle to think of a more offensive comment. By your logic, any person wishing or trying to commit suicide has forfeited their right to life and can justifiably be murdered...WTF!!!?????

Well put. Trying to justify the use of nuclear weapons against civilians during a war by using a moral argument is absurd. War is the most immoral thing we have invented to date. Winning is the only "moral value" in war, a sad fact that's been proved over and over again.
