Cudlo 0 #28 December 7, 2006 Seeing as I have no desire to pass on my genes to anyone (have had depression and addiction issues for as long as I can remember into my childhood) its really not a hard choice. Especially as someone interested in psychology, some serious longterm studies could be accomplished._________________________________________ "People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid." - Kierkegaard

Icon134 0 #30 December 8, 2006 ok, let me give y'all some additional information regarding this authors interpretation of the "life extension" scenario. The idea in the book was that through a "genetic mapping" of an individuals chromozones it would be possible to repair the damages/mistakes that are made when a chromosone is copied (think, photocopying something over and over again...) as I recall after people recieved the injection which was designed to correct these "mistakes" physically many of them returned to/maintained an age of about 27-35ish. unfortunately one of the "problems" encounterd (among many) was that this genetic "correct" didn't effect the mind in the same manner... so although many of these people were physically fit... a number of them were losing their minds. of course this is merely just the interpretation of the author... btw: the book series is pretty good and it by the Author Kim Stanley Robinson.Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife...
