The PS3 debacle brought into perspective

Recommended Posts

eh? what debacle? We've seen masses fight for small numbers of highly desireable items for a long long time. Cabbage Patch dolls, anyone?

The story seems overblown anyway - Ebay prices might have been 2000 on Friday, but they're already down to 800-900 for the $499 model and 11-1200 for the 60gb model.

Hell, they started out at 89 million :P

It was a sort of debacle, people were shooting over them, trampling people in line over them....

Sony shitting on people? A better metaphor would be people shitting on other people. No one forced anyone to wait in line for a toy.

You people are taking this wAAAAAAAAAAAAAy too seriously... it's parody folks.

Yeah, but its not really perspective, is it? Putting something in perspective is showing the relative importance of it in relation to something else. Like, Iraq's a quagmire, the national debt is a record high, China's poised to take over as the most powerful nation on the planet and yet the reason people are pissed off is because they haven't got the best gaming platform yet:P
Do you want to have an ideagasm?

I thought that there are some PS2 and PS1 games that have been found to not play correctly on the PS3. That is pretty shitty. Viking has posted about the PS3 that he's played locking up regularly. That is pretty shitty.
People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

are we still in the land of parody, or were you serious?

Check xbox360's record of backward compatibility.

Not everything is going to work.

>it's parody folks.

A parody is a farcical imitation of what's going on. Showing Sony shitting on people is sort of a ham-handed analogy. As we would say back in my hacking days - not very elegant at all.

OK, fuck me runnin :). It's visual satire; good enough?

I think it's funny, there may be some Sony lovers, I don't do video games. All that Sony makes that I like are vid cams and TV's.

Can we just enjoy the giant ass and monster turd and get a laugh? B|

I was quite serious, when a company says that the old games should still work, then they should still work. They didn't make the claim that some of the games might work. I still think the PS1 JetMoto games are the best I've ever played. All the PS1 games my kids have work on their PS2.

Why should the integrity of the Xbox360's compatibility claims change my expectation of Sony's claim being true. For Sony, it should make it even more important to make the claim true, so they can have a marketing advantage over the Xbox.

Look at the architectural changes on the PS3.

My distant understanding is that the list of games that won't work is a couple hundred. Out of thousands. It's not universal compatibility, but fairly high. Also there may be flash updates moving forward to fix it.

Bottom line - you have PS2 games you love...you still have a PS2. And if the ratio of non running games proves to be much higher than claimed, well, then the first batch of PS3 buyers may have a legit beef.
