What a Shame. The Propaganda is Working Over There

Absolutely. I'm all about new solutions to old problems. I didn't bitch about the cost of power out here - I put up a solar power system. I didn't just complain about the traffic and gas prices around here - I bike. At the company I work at, we thought cellphones should be better and cheaper. We didn't lobby the government to mandate lower prices. We designed our own standard, built phones and base stations, and sold them. Made money doing it, too.

I am in favor of freedom of speech, action and belief, and think that people should be able to be any race/religion/sexual orientation without being discriminated against in any way. I think old ideas and traditions sometimes have merit, but should not be a barrier to new ideas and new roles for people.

In other words, I'm a liberal.

Call your self what ever you like but most of your issues are not liberals to own.

In any event I am for nearly all you post but with one change. I do not think traditions should be torn down just to be destroyed (not all traditions anyway).

Adjustments can and should be made but through and exchange of ideas. Not one side using political correctness as a weapon.....

. . . unless there's a good reason. I agree. All too often, though, I think we stick with older traditions just because they're there, rather than because they benefit us.

Should women stay home while men work? No benefit in that (other than tradition.) No reason to keep it.

If a couple has kids, should one person be with them a lot? Yes - there _is_ a good reason for that.

Actually this touches on a point that I've been thinking about recently. While I don't think that "women should stay at home" I do think that there's a benefit to one spouse staying at home. Everyone, especially those on the right, like to talk about the decline of the "family" and "family values". I think a lot of the decline that they're referring to can be attributed to the fact that both parents have to work full time jobs to maintain the middle class lifestyle that one working parent used to be able to provide. This means that someone else is charged with raising their children during the day. Nowadays, the home is just where the family meets to eat and sleep. And during that short time that the parents and children have "together" they're spending most of it in front of one type of screen or another instead of actually interacting with each other.
But to keep with the thread.....ummm....yea...embrace the future and update the 100 yr old technology that rules our lives.

Wouldn't it be fun to see which group uses more unkind political labels in SC. :D

I try to think of people as individuals rather than as members of groups, but can say that, lately, the most vitriolic name-calling seems to come from people who lean left. Their counterparts who lean right make up the difference in severity with an overwhelming quantity, and all who participate in such tactics tend to just make themselves look foolish.

(warning - thread drift in progress)

I think there is certainly a benefit in parents raising a child. They need not be the same parent all the time - or even the biological parents - but I do think it's important for a child to have a very small group of people to call parents. It can even be a grandparent or sister/brother if the situation warrants, but having someone to rely on (and emulate and learn from) is important for children.

In most cases, that means either one parent stays home, or they alternate. One compromise solution is to have one parent work from home while the other works a more traditional job.
