Guest #1 November 15, 2006 Come on, smarties -- should I put my house on the market now and get $$ out before the market tanks even more, or live with it if I can for another year to see if bidding wars and 3-day sales come back? Around here (Oregon) I'd have been better off selling it last spring compared to now. You can have it good, fast, or cheap: pick two.
Gawain 0 #2 November 15, 2006 I guess that would depend on where in Oregon you live. If it's Portland metro (including Beaverton, Tigard or Lake Oswego, etc), I'd hold onto that sucker forever. If you want something else, rent it out. If you're on the coast, you might want to wait until better weather comes around again to sell it (spring time). If you're in some other part of the state (Salem, Coos/Curry County, or high desert) I don't know if it would make that much of a difference either way.So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! Guest 1010 #3 November 15, 2006 I'm in a mature upper-middle class neighborhood in the burbs/county outside of Salem, but things here (I think) tend to reflect the overall market - if things are selling fast and high in Portland, its the same here (just not so fast or so high). True, but Salem isn't the economic hub for the entire state, Portland is (regardless that it's the Capital, and it's too far away to be a suburb of too small a city like Portland). Life becomes apparently sparse as you travel south on I-5. Salem is a blip of nice pavement and you're past it without any real distraction...and besides that, those traveling south would have already passed Mollala and Skydive Oregon, and those going north will be in a hurry to go there...so you see... Seriously, if you know a good real estate agent, they'll be on the level with you about what the climate is really like. Edit to add -- If I were to guess, a real estate agent may advise you to wait, if for no other reason than to let things up there dry out from all the rain that's been getting dumped on the PacNW (well above what people are used to from what I've seen on the news). So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! I don't see listing it until after the holidays if I do list it, so have some time to continue to sort it all out. You can have it good, fast, or cheap: pick two.
