Not surprising at all. The US has successfully extradited med-marijuana patients from Canada to stand trial and have been working hard to get Marc Emery who faces a life term if extradited to the US even though he has not commited a crime in the US.

It's easy to level the playing field, change the UK laws to be as difficult as the American ones...

Spying is always going to go on. It's tolerated to a certain extent amongst friends, with the agreement that it won't go too far.

Most embassies/consulates are in reality staffed with foreign intelligence service members with diplomatic jobs as cover. This is why most traitors just waltz into these embassies and offer information. See Aldrich Ames, Robert Hanssen, et al.

There's a precedent for that. We regularly get extradition for sex tourists for their actions outside the US, and prosecute them under US law. Just change the crime and the theory stands.
