the shadow of my truck was cast back into my headlight beams, virtually making the first 50' in front of the truck completely black.

I'm no physicist, but is that possible?

God must have made it happen, because it violates the known laws of optics.

Are you saying that a vehicle behind me with a bright set of lights is not going to cast the shadow of my truck in front of me just because I have my headlights on?

Now, that sounds like a phenomenon.

What you wrote was:

Which is total rubbish. A shadow can't reduce the intensity of your headlight beams or the illumination they produce on the road ahead. They remain just as bright as they were previously.

If you "rear end" a slower moving vehicle in the left/fast/passing lane, you are at fault in the US. That means the slow car has the right of way. Give the fast car the right of way in the left/fast/passing lane, and the slower cars will get out of the way, since they would be liable if they are hit from behind.

That's about the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. You want to be able to rear-end someone on the highway and say it was their fault that you could be bothered to slow down and avoid an accident?

Your number one responsibility as a driver is to avoid collisions. As the rear driver, you are without a doubt in the best position to avoid a collision in a rear-end scenario, and if you don't avoid it, then it can only be because you either did it intentionally or you weren't driving with due care and attention - perhaps because you're looking for faster cars in your mirror all the time instead of looking where you're going. ;)

The roads are there for the benefit of all drivers and are there to be shared. Your repeated insistence that slow people should get out of the way gives the impression that you think differently.

If a person changes lanes to pass, then changes back to the right/slow lane, repeatedly, that is weaving.

No. That is overtaking. When you weave threads into fabric, in order to have the fabric hold together in any concrete form, you need to ensure that the threads pass on both sides of each other, otherwise you just have a pile of discrete threads that fall apart in your hand. In the same way, weaving through traffic would imply passing other cars on both the left and right. If the only cars in the overtaking lane are in fact overtaking other cars, then nobody will be overtaking on the right and therefore nobody will be weaving.

I can't stand it when people think that they should have the left lane of a highway all to themselves, just because they want to go faster. It doesn't matter to them if the road is crowded, all of the lanes are full of traffic, somehow they think that they are the only ones that want to go faster, so they tailgate and get mad, as if everyone in front of them should get out of the way.

Also, I hate it when people let their dogs on their laps while they drive. Today I had a guy pull out in front of me because his little rat dog was ON HIS SHOULDER, so he could not see well to his left.
People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

Oh, come on Kallend; Haven't you ever heard of black light? ;)

Strange as it may seem, the number of accidents has declined dramatically. Experts from Argentina and the United States have visited Drachten. Even London has expressed an interest in this new example of automobile anarchy. And the model is being tested in the British capital's Kensington neighborhood.

Well surprise surprise. Human beings can actually figure out for themselves how to drive.

I hate those few bad-apple tractor-trailer drivers (and most of that profession are very skillful drivers, and they get my respect) who dangerously tailgate people at very high speeds on the interstate to intimidate them with their enormous rigs. 75 isn't good enough for this guy, he wants to go 85, so he hangs 2 inches off the bumper like he's drafting at Talledega. Fuckwad. That's a fatality waiting to happen. One wrong move by someone there and a bunch of people die.

I plowed through most of the posts here. Wow, I wished I lived in your world(s);) I've been living in Korea for going on 5 years and I've seen almost every bad driver described here... in just the last month!!:S

Imagine a society that historically had comparatively few written rules (when compared to the west). Hell, 25 years ago most of the people here didn't own a car. All the older men, around 35-40 and above (the worst drivers!) taught themselves to drive or learned from a friend. It's kinda like this "If you're not in my social group, #$&% you! Rules, I don't need no stinking written rules. We didn't have them before so I'm not going to follow them now.";):S:P Okay, I exaggerate just a little...

In my travels and living around the world, I've found the Germans (and probably Austrians/Swiss) to be among the finest. Many countries have a large number of good drivers but few of them require as much training as the average German receives.

Any thoughts from someone who has been around other parts of Europe and the world?
