I have to confess to not knowing the true implication of your election results but I have found it amusing hearing on the radio that Bush is suddenly announcing a new policy in regards to Iraq.

Is this a direct response to the anticipated breathing hes going to be having down his neck?

Looks like he knows its going to be a bumpy ride and hes trying to make it smooth as possible

I find it encouraging. It took a pretty hard kick in the ass to make him realize he had to change directions, but I am glad he's doing it. Remember that the war isn't a political game for a great many people; there are americans, iraqis, afghanis and others dying every day over there. They will be the real winners if he manages to turn the course of this war around.

Don't forget that just two years ago he was re-elected. So in truth, it seems that the major shift in US feel for the war has changed in the last two years. Predictable and expected by some.

Bush is a highly underrated politician. He is doing what any sensible President would do in this situation. His power base evaporated over night and now he is required to be more conciliatory.
