Strange Proposal on ballot in FL

Recommended Posts

I voted today in Hillsboro county, FL. On the ballot was a very strange proposal. I said something like. Do you think sexually oriented businesses in Hillsboro county should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. This relates to some ridiculous legislation that was passed a few years ago regulating to strip clubs.

Here is my question. Why is this being asked? If there is a problem with the laws (which I think there is), change the laws. Why should people be voting on whether or not to enforce the laws. The law should be enforced or changed.

Can someone explain to me how a proposal like this is even legal?

ITs called community standards.... if by this vote they get a majority... then they can go after the smut peddlers as defined by the Ultra Conservatives amoungst us.

Another way to circumvent the first amendment. Love it. :S

It never ceases to amaze me how much more worried we are about our kids being exposed to sex than we are about them being exposed to violence. What a violent, uptight, sexually repressed nation we Americans are.

Would it really be so bad if we had the occasional school orgy instead of all the school shootings? :o:P

I guess Congress would support that.. as long as another republican protector of morality ....Congressman Foley.. protector of childrens morality is in charge.

I understand that, but I just don't understand how they can ask people to vote on whether or not to enforce the law. It is a law they can't ask people to selectively decide which laws to enforce. They can ask people to decide if the law should be changed, but not enforced.

If the people vote in the affirmative... in winning numbers... then they have set the community standard by which they can say we are just enforcing the law based on community standards.

Keeps the number of lawsuits down.. and sets precedent to go after the evil doers.
