Lucky... 0 #1 November 2, 2006 In Kansas, 9 former Republicans run as Democrats http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20061102/pl_nm/usa_elections_kansas_dc_1 The bad thing is that they will still vote for more corporate power, less healthcare for the people, abortion abolition and all the fun things Repubs do, just with a Repub sticker...... I hope they are smart enough there to not fall for it.

SpeedRacer 1 #3 November 2, 2006 hmmm, actually it looks as though the individuals who are doing this are people who believe in the Republican party, but are objecting to the bits of the platform that come from the extreme religious right... from the article "A cross-section of Democrats, moderate Republicans and independents are backing the party-switchers, saying a Republican obsession with expanded government and deficit spending, along with divisive social issues like abortion and gay marriage, has marred efforts to limit government, boost spending on education and ensure fiscal responsibility." I'd be willing to bet there's a fair number of Republicans out there who don't like it when the party is hijacked by a bunch of religious extremists. (Probably even more true in Kansas where the fundies are trying to have the schools stop teaching evolution.) billvon 3,120 #5 November 2, 2006 >The bad thing is that they will still vote for more corporate power . . . Well, duh. Meet the new boss; same as the old boss. 90% of what political parties do is give people a sense of accomplishment. "Look, we took back the house and senate! We WON! Now there will be some real changes made!" They never happen, of course. Then, four to sixteen years later, the other side gets to say "after a decade of bad government, we took back the house and senate! We WON! Things are going to be GREAT now!" The only time we as a people win is when the government is run by two parties simultaneously. No one will get anything done (unless we get invaded or something) and thus no new taxes, no new wars, no new government programs, no more lost rights.
