But the fact that they would be obliterated if they attacked us caused them to reconsider any possible attack (as it did with us.) Same applies to North Korea. Its often fashionable to describe your enemies as insane, unreasoning monsters, but that's generally not the case. Only one country, ever, has used nuclear weapons against civilians (or indeed in anger at all.) So at least from history's perspective, countries like Russia, Pakistan, India, France, and now North Korea have more restraint than we do. I hope it stays that way.
