akarunway 1 #1 November 1, 2006 Anybody help w/ info on this rifle. We just dug one of of the gun safe. I'll post a pic as soon as I can figure out how. Thanks> LA296SPRINGFIELD TRAPDOOR CARBINE WITH BELT AND TOOL This carbine serial number is 1562xx indicateing a date of manufacture of approximately 1881 and falling within the what some refer to as the Model 1879 serial range. It has the US Springfield Markings on the Lock and what appears to be 1878 markings on the breechblock but apparently according to some experts is the 1873 markings with a hard stamp. The marks V/P are on the barrel along with the inspector marks of A on the barrel opposite the V/P marks. There is no firing proof behind the trigger guard nor could I see an inspectors mark on the stock. The wood has a lot of dings showing signs of use. It has the compartment in the butt. It come with a belt and a tool. It has a great look indicating probable use in the Southwest. <>It has most of the above but the trigger guard is a little different. I can email a GOOD pic to someone if THEY can post it. Still not that computer savvy. Just a dumb redneckI hold it true, whate'er befall; I feel it, when I sorrow most; 'Tis better to have loved and lost Than never to have loved at all. JohnRich 4 #3 November 1, 2006 Sounds like you've already done some research. And you didn't specify what "help" you want with it. What is it that you want to know?
