If this propaganda is aimed at the US, it is criminal. I have much less of a problem with influencing opinion overseas, but this makes it sound like it is aimed at US citizens. Using fronts to improperly influence public opinion in the US is treason.

Pardon? I'm not following your reasoning - this is the same sort of thing that "Radio Free Europe" and similar have done for decades.

Then you must want Ted Kennedy charged with treason.

US citizens need non-molested information in order to make decisions relating to leadership/elections. If media in the USA, or available to US citizens, is represented as free media reporting, our democracy becomes a sham, as voters will be making decisions based on false or misleading information.

For the US government to willfully mislead voters is treasonous.

The American media is supposed to be "free"...can't speak for other countries ("Pravda", anyone?)

All the major news outlets are politically biased... Fox centrist/leaning right, and the grand majority of the rest firmly biased left. The trick is to not get your news from only one side of the house, whether it be left or right.

That story has nothing to do with the USG creating propaganda for US consumption. Stay on topic.

Right, it only has to do with Kennedy conspiring with the KGB to tell the "truth" to American voters. You are the one who brought up treason.

If true, yes, investigate Kennedy. That is unacceptable if true. But we also should not accept what is being done now , which is what this thread is about.

Probably more than Blitzer and CNN got from the terrorists to air their snuff film... and almost guaranteed, less than ABC/NBC/CBS/MSNBC et alia are getting in exchange for airing the Dem talking points...

I don't have a problem with stories being put out by the government as long as they are identified as so and that they are truthful. Many of the stories that appear in the MSM today contain info actually provided by stringers and not the reporter and that's not disclosed.

I love it!

Pentagon boosts 'media war' unit

US officials believe bad news from Iraq gets undue coverage

The US defence department has set up a new unit to better promote its message across 24-hour rolling news outlets, and particularly on the internet. The Pentagon said the move would boost its ability to counter "inaccurate" news stories and exploit new media.

. . .

On Monday, Vice-President Dick Cheney said insurgents had increased attacks in Iraq . . .
----------------------------------

So the 'media war' unit is going to counter "inaccurate" bad news from Iraq like . . . Dick Cheney's?

Quick! To the bat-computer! Must get the story out that Dick Cheney is a liberal america-hater who wants the terrorists to win!

Mr Rumsfeld said earlier this year that he was concerned by the success of US enemies in "manipulating the media".
