Stopping the atrocities in Darfur is the job of any nation with the ability to assist.

You mean like making an effort to stop the atrocities of the tyrant Sadamm Hussien?

The libs are really supporting that humanitarian effort.

Twenty years ago he wasn't a tyrant in our eyes. Remember who supported him in the 80's against Iran. Also don't tell me we didn't know the SOB he really was. Read up on your Iraqi history. SH was a cold blooded killer and our best friend at one point in time. Do you really think we cared about what was going on back then and the thousands of people his regime tortured and killed.

And the other signatories to the treaty should...do what, exactly? I haven't read the treaty, but I'd imagine it worded so that the signatories would all support anti-genocidal efforts and not interfere with them, but not assigning the lead to any one nation.

Like Rwanda, this is not something the US should take the lead on given our current military and budgetary disposition. This is something the African nations should take on and execute, with the US taking a supporting role.

:S

This is the important part:

"The Contracting Parties,

Having considered the declaration made by the General Assembly of the United Nations in its resolution 96 (I) dated 11 December 1946 that genocide is a crime under international law, contrary to the spirit and aims of the United Nations and condemned by the civilized world,

Recognizing that at all periods of history genocide has inflicted great losses on humanity, and

Being convinced that, in order to liberate mankind from such an odious scourge, international co-operation is required,

Hereby agree as hereinafter provided:

Article I: The Contracting Parties confirm that genocide, whether committed in time of peace or in time of war, is a crime under international law which they undertake to prevent and to punish. "

We've promised, by signing this, that we will try to prevent genocide. So far, we haven't made much of an effort.

Cookie cutters are for kitchens - not foreign policy. Read up a bit on the Darfur situation and rethink. What you propose is impractical.

Mabe you could enlighten me. Is it ok to stop the Serbs from eradicating Moslems, but not ok to stop Moslems from eradicating Africans they no longer want to exist? Are you worried about Arab public opinion? 13 cruise missiles hit an asprin factory in Kartoum once before so it's not like we haven't been there.... just a bloody nose to tell them to back off.
Do your part for global warming: ban beans and hold all popcorn farts.
