If the photo is what I think you were describing, it's called "scarification", and you can find more photos on BME. Some of them can be really beautiful when healed.

hehe. It's not something I'd do myself, but I came across some photos of it when I was doing research before I got my tattoo. Some of the healed ones are really pretty, but it looked way too painful and bloody for me to consider it, and the healing is unpredictable.

As for the moralists, I couldn't care less. I made it clear what was in the pictures. If they don't like it, it's not my fault they looked.

Fuckers removed them. It was several pics of a chic getting her back carved. The went from neck to lower back and carved a palm tree sceenery into it.
