SHAKING HANDS W/ A POLITICIAN/ LAWYER

Campaigns are filthy.

Not only in terms of last-minute smears and dirty-tricks.

But filthy, as in germs, parasites and all the bacterial unpleasantness that gets spread around through so much glad-handing and flesh-pressing, the NEW YORK TIMES fronts on Saturday.

Like so many political types these days, Anne Ryun, the wife of Rep. Jim Ryun, R-Kan., has become obsessive about using hand sanitizer, and ensuring that others do, too.

She squirted Purell -- anti-septic goop of choice on the stump, killer of 99.99-percent of "most common germs that may cause illness" -- on those lined up to meet Vice President Dick Cheney at a Topeka fundraiser this month.

NYT's Mark Leibovich reports: When Cheney was done meeting and greeting, he too rubbed his hands vigorously with the stuff, dispensed in dollops by an aide when the vice president was out of public view.

That has become routine behavior during this peak season of handshaking, practiced by everyone from the nation's most powerful leaders to the lowliest of hopefuls.
I hold it true, whate'er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.

Yep and it probably helps keep the spread of colds to a minimum. I wash my hands several times a day, I've not gotten seriously sick in a very long time, not even in the hospital.
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

Colds just kick my ass these days. Most colds are spread by hand-touch, not air Nowadays when I attend a meeting or something, even with 1 person, and shake hands, I try to discreetly sneak off to go wash my hands. I keep a pump bottle of hand sanitizer in my office, and a little squeeze bottle of the stuff in my car, too, for the same reason.
