The Dems seemed pretty effective in holding up judicial nominations. Is there any reason they couldn't do the same with spending bills?

Filibusters are a tool that works best when used sparingly. If used often, they would very likely be eliminated, through legislation, as a viable method of challenging the majority. The minority party must choose there battles well when it comes to filibusters.

A single spending bill is arguably less important than a lifetime SCOTUS appointment.

While that may be true, it's irrelevant. Most, if not all of last years filibusters had nothing to do with SCOTUS nominations.

The Dems make a big stink about hot button issues like Foley or the "culture of corruption" (until stories start coming out about their own indiscretions. Meanwhile, billions of pork gets quietly passed.

Oh yeah... Sens. Clinton and Schummer(sp?) were selected as "Porkers of the Year" by CAGW.

What are the Democrats doing about all this? Never mind I know.

Do you want the TRUTH????
They have been shut out of the process.... and that is quickly going to come back to haunt the right wing...big time.

http://www.rollingstone.com/news/coverstory/worst_congress_ever/page/1

Its a long read.. but what goes around.. comes around.... and that will not serve the american people very well.. just as right now it has not served us...but your boys rewrote the rules.

OK I tried to read it, but it's just dripping with sarcasm. So before I went any further, I checked out the writer Mark Taibbi.

http://nypress.com/18/9/news&columns/taibbi.cfm

Here's a few reviews of the above article.

Quote

Sen. Chuck Schumer: "This is the most disgusting thing I've seen in 30 years of public life."

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton: "Pope John Paul is one of the world's strongest forces for peace and understanding at a time when discord and rancor threaten every nation. It is outrageously offensive to make light of his physical suffering, which he has borne with such strength, dignity and grace."

A spokesman for Mayor Bloomberg: "As disgusting as this is, it's sadly par for the course for this publication."

Rep. Anthony Weiner: "All I can tell you is that this is outrageous and the New York Press is way overpriced. Everyone has a right to free speech, but I hope New Yorkers exercise their right to take as many of these rags as they can and put them in the trash."

Former Bronx Borough President Freddy Ferrer: "It's juvenile and not funny. For a lot of New Yorkers, the Pope embodies beliefs that are important to us, and we all wish him a speedy recovery."

Anti-Defamation League President Abraham Foxman: "It crosses the line of decency. This is a man who has devoted his life to love and compassion and reconciliation. To treat him in such gross manner is so ugly."

Polish-American Congress official Frank Milewski: "I would say it's hate speech - a most extreme example of hate speech."

So sorry, I have better things to do than read 4 pages of an article written by an idiot like this.

OH, the old "It's all your fault for not stopping me" argument.

The Dems must not be seeing too much wrong with it, since they didn't filibuster the bills... of course, with Harry Reid in the mix, it probably just seemed to be "business as usual"...

I didnt really expect you to take any of the bad republican press seriously.. but its very telling that you would use critics to attack the messenger than the message...since that is irrefutable...but then again Nothing with NOT HEARING the message of anything the far right does not want to hear ...unless it comes from approved propaganda sites.[:/]

Nope, not a confirmation of your argument, but confirmation of the "blame game".

It's more of a "oh, I don't think it's right, but I can get something out of it" - otherwise, why aren't we hearing the Dems go on about it? Where's the news conferences?

I think you are being unfair. If you do a little research on Taibbi, his articles have been criticized by Dems and Repubs. I'd hardly call the people I posted who condemned the article on the Pope right-wing.

Why did you edit out part my original to change its meaning? Not a clever debating tactic when the original is still available for all to read. The "BFD" related to being designated by some self-appointed group, as was obvious in my original. I have as much right to designate someone "the worst xxx" as anyone else does.

Jus' because MTV says "Satisfaction" is the best rock song of all time, does that make it true?

Perhaps you could explain why you think CAGW is lacking, instead of just going for the knee-jerk, who the hell are those guys, anyway. ;)
