everymansaved 0 #1 November 12, 2006 Hey all, I'm pretty sure I'm going to be taking the CSPA coach 1 course next season, and I'm all about preparation. For those south of the border, the CSPA C1 course is basically a ground coach, assisting in packing, and canopy patterns, etc... but also does some air-air work. All the in-air coaching is in the form of setting up above and behind the novice, and watching them execute maneuvers such as front and back loops, barrel rolls, and turns. Now, I feel quite confident in my ability performing all the maneuvers, but I have not seen them done in the air. I plan to do some mock up coach dives with my wife, who happens to be a CSPA C2 and watch her do the maneuvers, but I was wondering if anyone knows of any video of this kind of thing. I figure if I can analyze and critique video for such things as coming out of loops early / late, and such before I get in the air. Kind of a prep for the course prep! OK, so I like to be reeealy prepared. I'm sure there's got to be video out there somewhere, just a matter of getting my hands on it. Thanks everyone, take care! popsjumper 2 #2 November 13, 2006 Hi Sean, I don't have a reference for you for coaching videos but I do have a question, if I may... First, I am not familiar with CSPA guidance for coach dives. Here in the U.S., as far as I can tell going by the DZs I have visited, Coaching goes a lot further than simply floating along and watching. I know that my Coach rating class involved a lot of "how to teach" information and practice and the evaluation dives included actually teaching the "student" how to do things on the ground, observing in the air, and debriefing back on the ground. Most Coaches here will not only teach the basic manuevers but also help with any of the items on the student proficiency cards including basic criteria for group jumps, canopy control, landing accuracy, etc. Depending on the CSPA requirements, you may be doing yourself a favor by practicing teaching in-air skills and ground school info. I applaud your desire to be prepared. My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. everymansaved 0 #3 November 13, 2006 Well, the CSPA coach rating system is similar, but not exactly the same. We have two levels of coaches, a coach 1 and coach 2. The Coach 1 gives advice and training with things like flying paterns and doing basic maneuvers such as flat and flare turns under canopy, as well as training novices on freefall maneuvers such as frontloops, backloops, and barel rolls, observing them in-air, and then de-briefing them as you said. However, for a novice to go from a "Solo" CoP to an "A" CoP (recognized by FAI), they need to do 4-5 jumps with a coach 2, which is rated to train novices on the basics of RW. The dives consist of learing to drive forward, match levels, and breakoff procedures. They then de-brief the novice, and give them feedback. As far as the "how to teach" portion, I have my wife's workbook from the coach 1 course, and have been studying it. I'm mainly looking for visual reference of people doing maneuvers in freefall. Like I said, I plan to do some jumps as well, but it would get pretty time consuming and cost prohibitive to do a different skydive for each thing that can be improved on for each maneuver. Thanks for the feedback, take care! Sean LRGod made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.

popsjumper 2 #5 November 16, 2006 Have you tried skydivingmovies.com? I'm sure there are lots of AFF Level 6 and 7 jumps on there. I'm sure they would mostly show how NOT to do the instability inducing moves but it would be a start. My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus.
