If madonna really wanted to make a difference,she could have press conference to talk about the issues, and give up half her fortune

or she could make a difference by adopting one child. $3M to Malawi prob'ly will make *some* difference too.

Or she could do it your way. But since it's her life, I suppose she can make her own choices....

I agree that she can do whatever she wants. All I'm saying is that it is obvious from the press releases that benevolence is not her sole interest. The image of benevolence is also extremely important to her.

I'd like to add that most of the time, publicists are the ones publishing press releases. Madonna may decide to do something, and her publicist may decide to make it public. It does not mean that M had any intention to make a big fuss out of it.
Knowing her, she is actually more likely to try to protect her kids' privacy than expose them to the limelight, and has done a faily good job so far, which is not easy when the whole world population, including us SC regulars, feed on this kind of news.
On a slight tangent, when Magic went public with his testing positive for HIV, it turned out to be a brilliant PR move. It also happened to shed the light on an epidemic that can be easily contained, yet was growing thanks to lack of understanding and education of the disease. Public figures tend to have quite a big audience, and if anything good comes out of their actions, then take it to the bank.

There's a big difference between MAgic Johnson talking about having HIV and someone promoting their kid. The easiest way to get paparazzi to leave a kid alone is to be mum about it.

I disagree. Look at the huge fuss the press made over Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes's baby, just because they didn't mention the baby and didn't take her out in public. The headlines reading "What's wrong with baby Suri?" disprove your point, I think. All keeping quiet about a kid does is encourage the press to sneak around and spread rumors and try to sneak photos. I think Madonna is intelligent enough to figure out that when there's a hint of a rumor, it's best to just tell the press what's going on, or they'll just make something up that fits with the meager facts that they have. I think that the press has been given way too much leeway when it comes to publishing trash about celebrities.

I agree here. Publicity stunt or not, that kid is going to have a better life. He will be better educated and better cared for. The father said flat out that he could not care for the child because he had no money so the chily was in the orphanage.

You can't tell me he's not going to be better off.
