BillyVance 35 #1 October 13, 2006 I watched part of the Jay Leno Tonight show tonight, and he mentioned something about the 300 millionth American being born today. I remember reading in the newspaper or on the internet news a month or so ago about the U.S. approaching 300 million people, and that it hit 200 million in November or December 1967. I was born in 1967 (August) so I missed being the 200 millionth by a few months... Now this year my little girl misses being the 300 millionth by half a year. Wow... 100 million increase in 39 years..."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban

kelpdiver 2 #7 October 13, 2006 QuoteSo, what does the 300 millionth customer win? A full year supply of Gerbers strained peas? there was some notion of this, I'm sure, but they gave up on being able to determine the exact person. It's not just births, it also includes immigration. 100M increase (50%) in 39 years is actually a very low rate, esp considering the immigration levels. It figures to be in the 2% range annually. Not counting the ones who will die today or tomorrow or in the years to come for the failure of an incompetant president who wouldn't dare put his own ass in the line of fire. And don't question why I am not over there. I am 46yo, have a serious health issue and I did join in 1979 during the Iran crisis and did spend time in the Gulf. I know my geography, and that pretty much nails it on the head. If you can find a satellite photo of Australia at night, you can see where all the people live. By the way, America's 300 millionth person will be born sometime tomorrow. We're 3rd most populous nation behind China and India. India may well be the most populated country in people per square mile, nobody is even close, I don't think."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban

kelpdiver 2 #23 October 16, 2006 Quote I find it sad that you consider those men and women to be an insignificant number. And I find it sad that you (and Kallend) are unable (or unwilling) to read for context. In terms of a potentially thinning herd and in death rates, 3000 is a insignificant number. OTOH, if that 650k number floating around is real, that does have quite an effect on Iraq. I know bitterness makes it seem vitally important to talk about the war in any thread possible, but Come on!
