Just explaining what that punctuation mark means, since there was apparently some confusion. (Note - in the sentence above, I did not experience joy when answering you.) JohnRich 4 #28 October 12, 2006 QuoteJust explaining what that punctuation mark means, since there was apparently some confusion. There was no confusion. And it is, specifically, an exclamation mark, not a generic punctuation mark, that we are talking about. A punctuation mark could be many different things. An exclamation mark, as we have here, can be used to emphasize several different emotions, and he didn't specify which. It could be emphasis for either horror or glee, for example, in this usage. So I was asking him to clarify exactly how he intended it to be taken. You better stick to giving advice on your high-tech stuff, and leave the English lessons to someone else. How about you quit being a smartass towards me, and I'll do the same for you?

(Double usage signifying extreme bemusement) How do you 'explain' how your punctuation is supposed to be read? (Rhetorical question) No one would need to be a smartarse if you weren't so ready to pick a fight! (Emphasis on the point)Do you want to have an ideagasm?
