the wrong church

Recommended Posts

(This goes for all religions)

Everybody seems to be convinced that "their church" is the correct one. They also are just as convinced that the others are evil.

According to the Bible, the pecking order is God, angels, people. So, angels are smarter and more powerful.
Lucifer was the most beautiful for his faux pas.

So, if Satan wanted to fool someone, he could probably do it.

Usually, a preacher finds one passage and uses that as the definitive reason. A cool phrase. Like the "hook" in a song (usually a title phrase).

The Church of the Last Sandal

All these people who are so convinced, may be just really motivated and leading others down the wrong path.

People will kill each other to help them. Imagine being in a religious war on the incorrect side. That would have to be Satans best trick.

Between Christian sects, I think there is nothing to back up your broad, sweeping assertion.
People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

1. - Northern Ireland?

2. Even if you were correct (which you ain't!!), that still wouldn't negate the OP's primary premise.

Buddhists were here before Christians or Islamics. They're not big on religious war.

I think the only evil is the one we all have within us. If there's a war to be fought, it's a civil war, within us all, every day of our lives.

Northern Ireland is really a problem of British colonialism rather than religion. Religion has been used as a convenient excuse, since the native Irish are almost entirely Catholic, while the British are either Anglican or else Scots Presbyterians who were imported for the Ulster Colony in the 17th century. A lot of these Scots-Irish were fed up enough that they kept right on moving to the American colonies, where they settled the southern mountains and produced great Americans like Daniel Boone. And great American folk music.

A lot of great Irish Republicans, like John Parnell, were in fact Protestants themselves of native Irish stock, who were dedicated to a free Irish state. But religion was still the quickest and easiest way to divide these virtually identical people against each other in every social, political, and economic way possible.

Note: I'm speaking from a Catholic point of view because that is my religion.

Yes, we believe ours is the one true church. Why would I practise Catholicism if I didn't believe its teachings?

It is NOT a teaching of the Catholic Church that all other faiths are evil. In fact it is gravely sinful for a Catholic to condemn anyone as evil. That is God's job, noone elses.

It is our faith, like Tonto pointed out that evil may exist in a specific person; but only if in their free will they welcome it in. We believe in personal responsibility. That each human has a choice in regard to their actions. Wars are just a culmination of personal choice. Some wars are motivated by evil as others are justifiable.

So, do catholics believe that the rest are but lies and not really religions at all? If there is a god, I would think he or she or whatever has been shaking his or her or whatevers head in disbelief since humans learned to kill each other in his, or hers or whatevers name.

Why don't you read the rest of my post rather than cherry pick the words you want to use to mock my religious faith with.

I did read the entire post, I was not mocking your faith nor did I cherry pick. You stated that your religion was the one true church and I asked, in regards to your statement if catholics view other churches as false. Sorry if I offended you.

If yours is the "ONE TRUE CHURCH", what does that make the others? Not true (aka FALSE), or not churches?

If you want to back to the Normans, then I guess the Crusades and the Inquisition are fair game for discussion too.

I accept your apology and I'm sorry I jumped to a conclusion. In answer to your question, yes I do believe the Catholic Church is the one true church. It would make no sense for me to practise Catholocism if I didn't believe so. However, that does not mean in any way that I condemn any other faith and that I feel God condemns any other faith. Quite the contrary. I believe God has equal infinite love for every soul on earth no matter their faith. He judges each of us equally and always takes into account our individual culpability. I believe there are many non-Catholics entering heaven while many so called practising Catholics are not. It depends on the individual soul.

.... I think the different Christian type religions came about because they didn't completely agree with each others interpretation of the Word(Holy Bible) and this is probably just the human nature part that caused the overall effect of the different religions and their customs etc.. but at the end of the day you may dedicate yourself to a specific Christian type religion because you agree and enjoy their way of guidance and the way they live out their faith but the Word of God should still be the foundation to all Christian religions and the only Truth regarding faith in God , Christ and the Holy Spirit ...
If at first, the idea is not absurd, then there is no hope for it

"I believe God has equal infinite love for every soul on earth no matter their faith. He judges each of us equally and always takes into account our individual culpability."

You may believe this , but this view is not consistent with the teachings of the bible. You should read Mahew 12
31: Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
32: And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

Now I have 0 faith in the existencce of the holy ghost and 0 confidence in the quality of its charachter even if it did exist. This blasphemy is clearly unforgivable according to the bible. let us contrast that with Jeffrey Dahmer, he was serial killer who ate his many victims. This sin is forgivable, but my religious beliefs are not forgivable, therefore it is not correct (at least within Christian theology) to say god's love is indifferent to one's religious faith. A pacifist Hindu like Gahndi is going to hell, wheareas a Christian serial killer like Dahmer is off to heaven.
So if God if he exists, is an asshole.

It's not about logic it's about choice ... why would you wanna blaspheme against the Holy Spirit if you knew who the Holy Spirit is ... your own logic should tell you that if you don't believe in God, the Holy Spirit and everything that goes with it why worry about it and blaspheme against it ? It means nothing right , but if you do blaspheme against the Holy Spirit for no reason , i believe that such an action would be inspired by satan. People forget that satan exists just as much as God and has a part to play... i believe that if one really repents from any sin with your whole heart , you will be forgiven.>>

Whatever, Phil's point is that according to that passage the Bible excuses murderers but not blasphemers. Which position (Phil's or the Bible's) strikes you as more sinful?
Do you want to have an ideagasm?

My religious beliefs on this matter are:
1) that the holy spirit does not exist.
This is blasphemy.
2) That even if the holy spirit did exsit that it would not be worth worshiping as it has a similar character to a fascist dictator ie demanding obedience and worship and killing anyone (including children) that gets in its way.

That is also blasphemy. But it is not blasphemy for no reason. I was brought up religious and have considred these issues long and hard.

I do not worry about blaspheming the holy spirit. What I do worry about is the effect of a philosophy that believes this to be the only unforgivable sin. A phiosophy that believes a serial killer is worthy of forgiveness but somone who merely thinks negatiely of an unproven spirit is a very dangerous philosophy.

"i believe that if one really repents from any sin with your whole heart , you will be forgiven."

You can believe whatever you like but I have clearly shown the bible says somethig very different. I wonder why your vies and that of the bible are so different? why do you believe the bible is so wrong? Was the author of Mathew a liar or just a bit mistaken?

I think it's all about your personal interpretation ...obviously i would be more against someone who killed a relative of mine or something similair but that would be because of my experience , sadness and trauma as it effects me directly ..If someone blasphemes against the Holy Spirit it does not affect me that much...thing is God through Jesus Christ offers forgiveness to both sins if one really repents but i will leave that up to God.

You are not answering the question.
You say Christ offers forgiveness for both sins but the bible does not. So either the authors of the bible are liars or mistaken, which is it?

Furthermore you give us the example of a relative killed. But what if the victims were unknown to you?
Which do you think is the worse crime , the murder and torture of many people or simple disbelief in the holy spirit? Please tell us your opinion.

Did you read this ?

http://net-burst.net/guilty/sin.htm

...The fact that you believe that you are committing blasphemy because you don't believe in the Holy Spirit shows me that you make up your own interpretation cause nowhere in the Bible it says that if you don't believe in the Holy Spirit you will not be forgiven.

Some people never believe in God,Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit until for example he or she is 18 years old so does that mean they committed a unforgivable sin ?

As i have tried and tested my belief and in that case unbelief in God,Jesus and the Holy Spirit and after that i know that God is a God of love and once you commit yourself to Him ,He will show you what his love is like and once you have experienced this , religion and customs etc.. does not bother me really it's all detail that you can attend to if you want but praying and having that personal relationship ,comfort and daily experience of his love that surpasses all previous understanding is what i enjoy and live for.
If at first, the idea is not absurd, then there is no hope for it
