billvon 3,132 #1 October 6, 2006 As far as I can tell, the respective parties have come up with a list of talking points that go something like this. DEMOCRATS: 1. Representative Mark Foley resigned after being confronted with IM's suggesting he's a pedophile. 2. We need better leadership in Washington. Did we mention Foley's a pedophile? 3. The page committee should have done a better job policing the program, to protect against issues like this, where Foley (a pedophile) took advantage of kids. 4. Foley's a pedophile. (Did we say that before?) 5. The republicans are morally corrpupt, and this is evinced by Foley (a pedophile) sending messages to teens. 6. We need a solution in Iraq, and Foley's still a pedophile. 7. It's too bad so many people are distracted by Foley when there's serious work to be done. (who, by the way, is a pedophile.) REPUBLICANS: 1. Foley is despicable and we don't defend what he did. 2. The democrats are using this to try to influence the election. 3. The democrats probably had something to do with the Foley scandal, who by the way we do NOT defend. 4. The democrats are actually much worse than Foley. But we're still not defending him! Saying someone else is worse is NOT defending him. And the dems are worse. 5. That first page wasn't underage. So it's not a crime, and those despicable dems who are calling Foley a pedophile are proving themselves to be hypocrites. But we're still not defending him, no matter what it sounds like. 6. Foley is actually better than Clinton was - even though we're still not defending him at all. 7. It's sad how many people are talking about Foley when there are serious issues to discuss. Heck, the last six points were full of people talking about Foley (who we do not defend.) Sad.

Did we mention that Clinton got a blow job from a teenager and then lied about it under oath. a. She was 22 (not that that made it morally that much better) b. Here's how Wikipedia analyzes the "lied about the blow job under oath" claim. Apparently, he was using a definition drafted by the Independent Counsel, as modified by the Court, to only mean "intercourse". A loophole, yes, but not one he created. Quote Allegations of perjury In his deposition for the Jones lawsuit, Clinton denied having "sexual relations" with Lewinsky. Based on the evidence provided by Tripp, Starr concluded that this sworn testimony was false and perjurious. The issue was greatly confused by an unusual definition for sexual contact which excluded oral sex. This definition was ordered by the Independent Counsel's Office during the initial questioning which led to the perjury allegations. [3] During the deposition, Clinton was asked "have you ever had sexual relations with Monica Lewinsky, as that term is defined in Deposition Exhibit 1, as modified by the Court." The judge ordered that Clinton be given an opportunity to review the agreed definition. Afterwards, based on the definition created by the Independent Counsel's Office, which was limited strictly to intercourse, Clinton answered "I have never had sexual relations with Monica Lewinsky." Clinton later stated that he believed the agreed-upon definition of sexual relations excluded his receiving oral sex. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lewinsky_scandal

crwtom 0 #10 October 6, 2006 Quote DEMOCRATS:. the favorite advice of pundits to democrats these days is not to "overplay your hand". My impression is the dems to be better listeners this time around then the repubs were in '98 - when their impechment zeal basically cost them a fair amount of seats in the elections later that year. ryoder 1,590 #13 October 6, 2006 I just saw my first negative TV campaign ad of the season, (paid for by the Democratic candidate). Funny thing was the entire ad was dedicated to explaining how close the Republican is to Dubya, and how much Dubya supports him.
