When will Tony Blair go?

Recommended Posts

Since "Phoney" Tony Bliar has said he's going to resign his prime-ministership, everyone has started to speculate on WHEN!!?

My guess is: 21st November, 2008! No earlier! Regardless of what he says!

My reasoning is that Margaret Thactcher, the "longest (continuous) serving British prime Minister" entered office on 4th May 1979, and left office on 22nd November 1990.

Tony Blair entered office on 2nd May, 1997. To become the new "longest serving... Etc..." He has to stay in power one day longer than Maggie. Hence the significance of 21/11/2008. A General Election isn't demanded in the UK until 2009, so it's now a purely internal party affair and depends on his ability to survive as Prime Minister until then.

"Please stay on, Tony! We love you, Tony!".... Not my words, only what was said at the party conference.

I bet he will... Reluctantly, of course.

Mike. (Off to the betting shop to put a fiver on this).

I'd seen reports this side of the pond that it may be as early as March-May 2007. Has something changed since then?
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

Yeah... Same here. When he got so unpopular that (juniour) ministers were resigning & MPs were mass signing letters calling for him to resign, he did say he'd go... But didn't say when! All he's said is that "This will be my last party conference, which suggests he'll leave within a year. Hence pundits are estimating that he'll leave in May 2007.

Of course, that pre-supposes that he's actually telling the truth THIS TIME!:S

In the meantime, Bliar is so patently self-centred that he WANTS a legacy - some achievement that he can point to as entirely his own.

He can hardly claim to be "Britain's Greatest Prime Minister". Not after Iraq, and he hasn't led us in a successful war like The Falklands or WWII. He's equalled The iconic Margaret Thatcher's number of successive election victories (but I don't think he'd like to risk trying to beat that record at the moment).

So... The only thing left is "Longest Serving Modern Prime Minister"... And for that, he'll have to hang in there for another 2 years. I think he'll actually try and go for it, I think that's been his target all along.

Mike.

I think he's already got his legacy. Several of them.

1. increasing the UK tax burden to the highest in history.
2. Incompetently trying to mend the NHS to a point that it is now beyond repair.
3. Conducting a foreign policy that has made us more hated than ever before (and that takes some doing)
4. Destroying our international reputation by being Bush's poodle and getting nothing in return.
5. Failing to even comprehend the level of illegal immigration let alone do anything about it.
6. Giving away our EU rebate in return for absolutely nothing
7. Over-stretching the armed forces to a point where we are no longer able to defend our borders.
8. Championing faith schools where our children get brainwashed into thinking creationism is science
9. Creating a bottomless money pit out of ID cards that will have no benefit whatsoever; and making them compulsory by the back door.
10. Introducing legislation that severely curbs freedom of speech, the right to silence and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.

And that's just from the top of my head.
Tony Blair and his cronies should be tried for treason.
