SpeedRacer 1 #76 September 26, 2006 QuoteJust to illustrate my point Jean........... www.globalsecurity.org/military/ops/provide_comfort_2.htm Wow.........that sounds A LOT more like we were already at war with Saddam. Yep...........26 KIA in ONE DAY! Sure it was a friendly fire accident but wouldn't have happened without Saddam. Ohhh............and look here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khobar_Towers_bombing OK............so Saddam didn't pull the trigger on this one. Osama did..........but once again.......they wouldn't have been there without Saddam threatening his neighbors. One final one..........this one is personal. http://www.romad.com/finaljumper/faley.htm Number 3...........nope........Saddam didn't pull that trigger either. An inept Navy pilot did. However.....Jason was in sight of the Iraqi border dropping bombs why? Yep.........Saddam Hussein. Seems to be a pattern here. you've raised some good points. As I've said before, it seems to me that we could have avoided a LOT of trouble if we had not gotten involved in the 1991 Gulf war. If he had invaded Saudi next we would have had a MUCH harder time getting a foot hold in the region. We don't need any more "D Day" beach landings. SpeedRacer 1 #78 September 26, 2006 we could have let the Arabs handle it. Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------
freeflir29 0 #79 September 26, 2006 Quotewe could have let the Arabs handle it. I don't know that they could have. The only military in the region that could hold off Saddam was Iran. That was a stalemate. I think he would have rolled through Suadi like we rolled through Iraq last time.
SpeedRacer 1 #80 September 26, 2006 You don't think a coalition of Middle Eastern countries would have stopped him? Most of the neighboring countries, sunni or shiite, hated Saddam & would not have wanted to see him taking over Saudi Arabia. I just think we would be better off leaving everyone else alone. Everytime we intrude in the Middle East we seem to make things worse for ourselves, & then try to solve it by intruding AGAIN. and again & again. In 1967 the Arab world TRIED to form a coalition to defeat Israel. They got their collective asses handed to them. No.........I don't think they could have defeated Saddam. UNLESS...........Iran AND Turkey had been willing to help.
SpeedRacer 1 #82 September 26, 2006 but in this scenario it would be Arabs fighting other Arabs. kinda like that TV show where they got bums to fight each other. Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------
