dorbie 0 #1 September 20, 2006 I never go for outlandish conspiracy theories especially from the left but I find the gas price fluctuations recently mighty suspicious. First it got elevated based on hype and hysteria rather than tangible factors and now we're back to declining prices with an approaching election based on what? The winter mix? In other years we've been fed bullshit about the switch to winter mix causing supply problems and increasing prices. I'm getting good and tired of these pigopolists and their useful idiots in the media snowing us all over gas pricing. On to taxes, and the CA proposition to tax oil production in State. Of course CA should get a hefty cut of natural resources drilled here. It won't affect prices just margins for the natural resource exploited here, ( it may affect local exploration but the environmentalists have put the kybosh on that here already anyway). The resulting post-tax oil goes right on the open market with all the rest of the oil and CA doesn't have to buy it. The right wing mantra that this will get passed straight to the consumer is wrong in this case, sure it get's passed along but there's competition in the oil market and why the heck should CA let anyone pump away it's natural resources and make all the cash from the booming market gains without some cut of the revenue? You'd never guess from the comments and debate that this tax was on oil production in the state. It should no more affect our prices than Alaskan or Texas oil drilling fees do.
