akarunway 1 #1 September 17, 2006 So. How soon til they are in our houses/ bedrooms? Opinions? Good or bad? Little by little >http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=405477&in_page_id=1770I hold it true, whate'er befall; I feel it, when I sorrow most; 'Tis better to have loved and lost Than never to have loved at all. Gawain 0 #2 September 17, 2006 Yeah, a speaker yelling, "Hey you! Stop that right now!" All the while the "real" cops are miles away, unable to intervene. I could see that blowing up in someone's face. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! DZJ 0 #3 September 17, 2006 Walking through Picadilly Station one time, I heard an announcement that said 'To the gentleman who has just urinated in the escalator hall, please be advised that we have a great CCTV picture of you, and the police are on the way'. In cases as clear cut as that, I don't have any problem with this technology. More generally, as long it is restricted to public areas and used with reasonable restraint (and in conjunction with sufficient police to actually make good on the surveillance), I could support this. Scoop 0 #4 September 17, 2006 I think your over reacting. The cameras would only relay the information to police who'd attend anyway (given a serious incident). If by them scaring someone into realising they are on camera, they runaway from an attack instead of continuing a prolonged assault. Thats good And how would it blow up in someones face? What would they do? Attack the pole the camera is on?

What I'm saying is that a motivated individual or group would be able to continue their assault, or whatever, despite the camera, despite the announcement of having been caught on camera. The camera may initially instill a hesitation, but society always adjusts, and no always in the direction people think it will, or hope to.So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! Scoop 0 #6 September 17, 2006 I still see no negatives. If nothing else they could at least tell a victim that help is on the way

I'm curious, how many London police in total, are there? In New York City, there are roughly 40,000 for a population of roughly 8,000,000. London has a population of what, 9,000,000 people? So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! Scoop 0 #8 September 17, 2006 What the hell has police officers on the street got to do with this? Of course they will still be out there. All they have done is attached a speaker to a CCTV system that was already there which in no way affects the policing requirements of an area

I was simply curious because I know there are fairly significant differences between how those respective police forces operate. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! According to the Met: Today, the Metropolitan Police Service employs 31,141 officers, 13,661 police staff, 414 traffic wardens and 2,106 Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs), and, since the realignment of police boundaries in April 2000, it covers an area of 620 square miles and a population of 7.2million. http://www.met.police.uk/about/index.htm Had nothing better to do, so I looked it up.
