U.S. Taxes. It's about damn time

Critics, though, note that even the Coburn transparency reform doesn't get to the root of the problem. "The information comes 30 days after the funds are spent. That's about 60 days too late," says Winslow Wheeler, director of the Straus Military Reform Project at the Center for Defense Information here. "We still lack an objective assessment of the spending."

That's the best criticism they can find? How about accountability? Even if we knew of it weeks before the disbursment, we couldn't stop it, not opponents can use it for oustering of encumbents, hence accountability.

It's no wonder that this is introduced in the midst of one of the most fiscally irresponsible presidencies of US history. Beyond that, 70% of the debt having occured under Reagan, Bush, Bush, time is now to reveal this info, regardless of the advent of the computer.

I would love to see an annual report of tax receipts, expenditures and then a breakdown of each, especially the latter. Also, explain to lay people how the annual deficit directly is lumped onto the national debt and give a historical record.
