Scoop 0 #1 August 30, 2006 I keep hearing (maybe incorrectly) that the US has a 3 strike policy with regards serious criminal offences, What you make of this? QuoteA man who drove his motorbike over a police officer as she broke up a fight has been jailed. Wayne Hewitt, 36, of Pennington, Hants, had denied deliberately riding over Pc Liz Parsonage outside the Thomas Tripp pub in Lymington in January. PC Parsonage was badly injured and is still off work seven months later. Hewitt was found guilty of dangerous driving and wounding with intent to cause GBH. He was told he must serve at least four years in prison. Previous offences The judge sentenced Hewitt to an indeterminate jail sentence for public protection and gave him a six-year driving ban. The jury at Southampton Crown Court was earlier shown CCTV footage of the attack on Pc Parsonage. As she tried to arrest a man involved in a fight, Hewitt suddenly rode his motorbike at and over her. Hewitt claimed he was drunk and out of control of his vehicle but the jury decided he had ridden over her deliberately. After the verdict, the jury was told Hewitt had a record of 85 previous offences, including deliberately riding a bicycle at a police officer. Original source and CCTV footage here EDIT: What that fat excuse for a police officer was doing watching his female colleague struggling with that male I do not know, the walking to help her while other people are on her back also pisses me off, but thats a seperate issue altogether
Gawain 0 #2 August 30, 2006 QuoteI keep hearing (maybe incorrectly) that the US has a 3 strike policy with regards serious criminal offences, Many states do, but not all of them. To my knowledge, there is no federal "3 strike" policy. QuoteWhat you make of this? 85 previous offences? Whoa...I'm not quite sure how to comprehend that. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! JohnRich 4 #4 August 30, 2006 Scoop, what the fuck do you have against Britain? Are you actually a racist or do you just have nothing better to do than trawl up random bits of shit from the internet and claim them as fact? Reference: "A Land Fit for Criminals", Message #2. I love irony.
DZJ 0 #5 August 30, 2006 Speaking of that thread, are you ever going to actually tell us what's wrong with Britain's self-defence laws, or not?
StreetScooby 5 #6 August 30, 2006 Quote tell us what's wrong with Britain's self-defence laws, or not? As has been discussed in other threads, it's not UK laws. It's their implementation that's the issue. We are all engines of karma

Andy9o8 2 #11 August 30, 2006 "3-strike" laws are idiotic. Now don't get me wrong – I have no problem, in concept, with sentence enhancement for recidivism. But when you cut through the bullshit, the REAL - or shall I say the original - reason why those American laws provide for THREE strikes is simple: baseball. You realize, of course, that if baseball had always had 4 strikes instead of 3, the laws would be "4 strike" laws. I'm not trying to be a snob, but I don't suffer fools gladly, either, and laws that mindlessly provide for "3 strikes" are emblematic of the lowest common denominator of human reasoning. Scoop 0 #17 August 31, 2006 It's not really ironic. This has nothing to do with self defence which was what was being discussed in your trolling thread. Plus there isn't any irony because you never made a point, you just posted something. Clearly my point is that sentancing in the UK is very lenient.
