Guest #1 August 23, 2006 Hey all, I'm posting this in SC because I'm attaching some photos that are political in nature. I went through Belgrade on my way back to Kosovo. I had over six hours of free time, so the plan was to go to the Nikola Tesla musem. This year marks the 150th anniversary of his birth. After he passed away in 1943, his estate was packed up and shipped back to his native land - Serbia. I wanted to get in there and get a picture of his urn, which is a gold sphere on a platform in the museum... "Hail, Nikola Tesla. Father of all we now hold true." After landing in Belgrade, I took a (very expensive) cab ride to the museum, only to find that it was closed (it's open on the weekends from 10am to 1pm - I got there at 3pm). There was another very expensive cab ride back. Doh! Anyway, going back to the (Nikola Tesla) Airport in Belgrade, I noticed that there is an aviation museum on the airport grounds, so I went to Czech it out - heh. There are piles of those old Soviet war-wagon helicopters (Hind, Hip, etc.) littering the premises, and a surprising number of T-33s / F-80s (US-made Korean War-era jet) on display. Inside the museum was some very interesting stuff. I've got some pictures attached. 01 - The Nikola Tesla Museum in Belgrade 02 - Canopy of F-117 shot down during Balkans War 03 - Tail and canopy of F-16 shot down during Balkans War 04 - Predator drone shot down during Balkans War (in Kosovo, not far from Camp Bondsteel, according to the placard) 05 - What a Commie jet looks like after it's taken a Stinger missile in the ass"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." JohnRich 4 #2 August 23, 2006 Wow, neat stuff. So what happened to Capt. "Wig" in that F-117? What about the F-16 pilot? Who cares about the Soviet pilot?
labrys 0 #3 August 24, 2006 Both pilots were rescued. There's a great article about the stealth pilot's rescue here: http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qa3897/is_200502/ai_n9477888 The F-16 crashed after an engine failure, according to the pilot, but the Serbians claimed that they shot it down.Owned by Remi #? Guest #4 August 24, 2006 That is correct - both pilots were rescued. I forgot to add that. Their rescues were confirmed by the museum clerk I spoke to. mh"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
