What would be sadder is if people are so frightened of being politically incorrect that they do nothing - that's what made 9/11 happen.

I say screw political correctness, and do El Al-style interviews of ANY young Middle Eastern males before they are allowed to board a plane, especially if their name is "Mohammed".

Hmm. You sound like a Nazis persecuting the Jews....

Mate, don't even joke. I had a american woman tell me as we were getting off a flight in the states that if she'd have known I had a parachute she'd have never got'n on the plane' I thought the silly bitch was going to faint.

I think this is a good example of why we should never walk on with our rig on our back/visible/not in a gear bag.

One nervous passenger can cause a lot of trouble. Good reason to not mention your rig to anybody. Of course you shouldn't get thrown off the flight, you are allowed to have it, but you don't need the hassle/time delay.

I've taken my rig all over the world and I never put it in a bag. I tuck in the Hacky, put the chest strap through the legs and sling it on my back. Usually people don't give it a second look, I even had a couple of compliments on my 'cool backpack'. When its not in a bag I can't be accused of trying to 'smuggle ' a parachute on board by some fucktard TSA wanabe. Also I can just take it on as hand lugage (until now) I wouldn't check in my rig, I've seen the state of luggage that has been trashed by ground crew. I even told a X Ray tech in Brisbane (Australia) that it was a parachute and she didn't belive me until she X rayed it!

I think it is likely that someday you will be noticed by someone that does recognize it for what it is, and expresses their concern to security. If that happened, I think security would very likely require you to check it in. They would no longer care that policy allows it as carry-on, and would exercise their authority to require you to check it. If that sort of incident happens often enough, then the TSA and airlines may reconsider their policy, because they don't care much about our preference.

hehe, seriously though, I am interested in how he can tell who is a muslim and who is not, considering it isn't a race thing, its a religion thing.

If they are serious Muslims, they refuse to look at women, so the airline puts their hottest stewardess at the door showing as much skin as possible. Any man who won't check her out doesn't deserve to be on that flight.

heh - good idea, that :D:oB|

I was talking to my cousin on Monday and he told me about a UK news story where passengers aboard an aircraft refused to sit down and take their seats until 2 "suspicious-looking" muslims left the plane. Apparently it held up the departure of the flight for quite some time. I haven't seen anything like that in the press here in the US. Has anyone else heard this story?

This kind of behavior is sad and scary (assuming it's true).

Now who would have guessed that would be your reaction?!?

So, are you saying that he is a racist or something like that because he would like to see us apply an effective security screening system such as El Al uses? There is no right to not be offended that applies here.

If the bad guys start using blue haired grannies to do their dirty work, then I'm glad that they have to go to all the trouble of trying to make that happen. If blue haired grannies were bombing planes because of some grievance they have with the free world, then I would want them to be singled out for special screening also.

How can you know if the passengers responded inappropriately if we do not know what the "suspicious behavior" was?

I understand you're not responding to my post, but to the original poster.

I agree with you, no details given, so no ability to judge whether the decision of the flight attendants was appropriate. However, the guys were apparently later found to be no threat. I think it is wrong for gov't officials to say the passengers acted irrationally when they will not provide details of what the suspicious behavior was.

I agree with you on that. We have no idea what spooked the passengers. Maybe the "threatening" passengers were trying to make people nervous?I wish they had some interviews with the other passengers.

Quite right, they may have been wanting to get themselves in trouble, just to get publicity for Muslims being victimized.
