miked10270 0 #1 August 22, 2006 Strange but true. America will admit some 30,000 Russian Muslims this year as residents on humanitarian grounds. After a year, they can become full US citizens. I'm unsure whether this would be viewed as good or bad news. Personally, I think it shows that whatever we may criticise America for, there are some areas where the absolute best of the "American Ethic" is still practised. There can be no denying that they are suffering. Nor that the "Cossacks" who've now formed a parallel police force in Krasnovar are a bunch of stupid, vicious, drunken Neo-Nazis (is there any other sort?). But do Y'All think that America should help in this way? Mike. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. miked10270 0 #8 August 22, 2006 QuoteIts not just the US in fact compared to outher countrys and the size of them it doesn't take that many. According to More 4's "Death of a Nation" program (Marcel Theroux on the current state of Russia), it IS America which is taking ALL of the Meskhetian Turks from Krasnovar. No other nation needs to act (or has). The US State Department has granted ALL the Meskhetian Turks living in Krasnodar refugee status and offers to help them resettle in the United States. They were granted this status in 2004. Many have already arrived in America. 30,000 is the number expected this year. Maybe more, maybe less... Doesn't matter. They all have this status & there are several million of them in total. In effect, a "blanket-grant" similar to the one Carter gave to Cuban refugees in the 1970's. Mike. Are you referring to the Cuban Refugee Adjustment Act of 1966? If so, then lets not forget the Carter administration was from 1976-1980. The administration that signed that into law, (after it was passed by Congress), was the Johnson administration, ten years before. BTW. it still stands. ,If I could make a wish, I think I'd pass. That wasn't Carter, it was Johnson in 1966 who facilitated the first two airlift waves of refugees. Carter signed the Refugee Act of 1980 which allowed refugee status for Cubans after the boatlifts ended. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! Darius11 12 #12 August 22, 2006 QuoteWhy is it always the US that takes the "oppressed" Becaue that is America The US is the best place on this planet for many reasons. One is the tolerance of its people. I live next to and am friends with two families both military one flew Apaches in Iraq. When we talk about views on the war we can talk freely and we both respect each other and still play football later. The American people are the most welcoming people I have ever met. I have met way to many people to think I have just been lucky I really believe the majority of Americans are very friendly. I know for a fact in many other countries I would have to watch what I say or bad things would happen. When my Father had decided that it was time for his kids to leave Iran we could have goon anywhere America was their first choice and a choice worth waiting for. Two- America is the land of opportunity. There is a reason why people from all over the world not just the 3rd world want to come here. Rich poor whatever. You really can do anything in this country so much so that the standards of people’s dreams are even bigger then the rest of the world. Tree- Freedom. Nothing in this world is worth more. The combination of these 3 things is what makes everyone want to come here. Europe has the same freedoms but the mixture of cultures, and races in America are exactly what makes this country great and most importantly comfortable to live in.I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." - Kurt Cobain
