As far as the church's actions go... Perhaps they should have a look at The Gnostic Gospels... The ones suppressed by The Catholic Church (quelle surprise).
Mike.
Suppressed? You gotta be kidding me. I can go to any bookstore anywhere and pick up a copy of the gnostic gospels. Suppressed my ass. The Catholic Church simply stated that the content of the gnostic gospels are not consistent w/ the other books of the bible.
So... What do you call it when the only existent copies were taken from Alexandria on the orders of the then head of the Christian Church (St. Ataneus or similar) and buried in the desert for near 2000 years until they were found by accident!
The Catholic Church's stance on these gospels, now that they're partly available, is about as convincing as their stance on The Magdalene Homes! Worse than Nixon on a bad day!!

Yeah, it would be a lot like Muslim countries where women are widely oppressed.
Women still make less than men in North America.
Women are under represented in Senior management positions in North America.
Women are under represented in senior political positions in North America.

I think you need to make a trip to any muslim country, and see it for yourself. Don't trust what the media tells you.

QuoteWow, why am I not surprised? It is not like they need chaperon, are not allowed to walk by themselves outside their home, or the laws targets them as second class citizens, are you implying that by any chance?

Wow. Touche. What Muslim countries have you been to? Do you know that all Muslim countries treat their women this way?
I specifically remember those that the one Muslim country I visited last year I remember seeing quite a few young women walking around alone, working in regular shops, talking to myself and my friend (who are not even clsoe to being Muslim by any means), explained to us that it's the country, not the religion, that makes the laws. I remember be allowed to visit a mosque and having the priest (or whatever you call them) explain to us the history of that mosque and then his own views on what is happening today. In no way was I ever felt they hated us (Americans) or looked down upon women.
Granted, that was just one country, and I haven't been to all of them.

The 2 most recent visits are Afhganistan, and Iraq. Women want their independence, and have long suffered at the unmerciful religious laws, which in most cases are the law of the land. Do a little search in Iran, Lybia, Sudan, you will really surprised of the millions of women and children that are deprived of any rights.....
Many links here

Iran is the Islamic republic of Iran. Don’t get any more Muslim then that.
Woman drive, go to school (more females in universities then men), go out alone, and have the same rights as men.
Oh yea and in my Koran and religion class which was only mandatory for Muslims we learned the Koran is filled with riddles way beyond it's time. Like if you count the words day and night they will add up to 365, and if you count the word Men and woman they are mentioned 124 times each.
Meaning that men and woman are equals.
We believe or at least the Muslims I have been around that men and woman are not similar but are equals.
If you study all religions side by side and take the original text. No religion has admitted women are equals to men but Islam.
We do have countries (the ones we support Like Saudi Arabia) that actually manipulate the Koran to oppress woman, but that is not just a quality of Islam but unfortunately the faith of many religions.

Really? Any text in the Koran that reads like Galations 3:28? There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

QuoteMarch 6, Khomeini announces that women are to wear
1979 hejab in the workplace. (Hejab is Islamic modest
dress which in Iranian context, at least in the
early period of the revolution, refers to a scarf
and long dress that covers women's whole body)
Men also folow Hejab not just woman.
Religious not sexiest.
QuoteMarch 29, Khomeini announces that beaches and sports
1979 events are to be sex-segregated.
Religious not sexiest.
Is there one you see that has to do with equality?
There is a huge difference between religious law that effects all then having sexiest laws.
Oh yea just so you know I have lived there half my life not seen it from TV or your preferred sources.
