QuoteIt is a personal statement, like wearing a black arm band during grief or football players wearing a fallen teammates number some where on their equipment.
Much to do about nothing.
It is a personal statement but I also think its about making a public statement and not letting lifes everyday events or ones personal events overshadow the event itself, especially in todays CNN 30 minute sound bite society which are quickly forgotten. It serves as a reminder to sometimes appreciate what you do have as others might have it worse than you. Or it can help to remind you and others why you are doing something. To me, its no different than flying the flag in front of ones house.
Some people dream about flying, I live my dream

So, start being safe, first!!!
QuoteThere was also a song called "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" that I learned at Fort Benning a long time ago. It was about a woman wearing a yellow ribbon for her lover in the US Cavalry. This was before Tony Orlando and Dawn and way after the John Wayne movie which also had the song. To me, the yellow ribbon applies to our troops and their safe return.

That song came-out in '73. That's how I remember it. The Iran-hostage thing was when yellow ribbons really started appearing. Folks were tying them to their car antennas.
That yellow-ribbon thing goes back as far as 1917, apparently:

Read again, it goes back to the 17th century.
