I gotta laugh about Karr himself though, I mean WTF? He got lots of noteriety for this, that's for sure. But now that he has been exposed as a creep and a pedophile and an all around weirdo, he will never be treated with any kind of respect by anyone. Give it another year and no one will even know his name.

Which is exactly why the defence will ask for protective measures during his incarceration, specialy due to the large amount of press associated with the case. It would be very unlikely that would not be granted.

Karr one on all counts so far.

first class flight back
possibility of book and film rights for his family
the list goes on for a bit.

If he gave willfully false statements to authorities while inside the US, he can be charged with that under the laws of each state in which he did that (e.g., California and/or Colorado). In most states that's usually just a misdemeanor.

Not sure whether giving false statements to Colorado authorities while outside US territory is a crime under Colorado law.

Maybe he can also be civilly liable for the cost of his transportation and some of the investigative costs after he arrived in the US. So yeah, they can send him a bill for the air fare, the cost of the DNA test, and some of the taxpayers' costs of the investigation. (I suppose if he's convicted of false statements to authorities, the court can make that restitution part of the sentence, too.)

Probably not much more than that. Those of you who feel that the above is not much worse than getting off scot free, I'm inclined to agree.

He'll be on Jerry Springer and the like, maybe get a deal for a book that won't sell terribly well, and then fade into weirdo obscurity as yet another oddball footnote in history.

Actually- I think he already looks like a creepy child molester- the kind of guy most parents would instinctively keep their kids away from. I'm sure that's one reason he was living in Thailand, where he could buy all the kids he wanted without any parents objecting!
