QuoteEspionage is defined, in part, by the Uniform Code of Military Justice as the communication to a foreign government of any information relating to U.S. national defense. It carries a maximum punishment of death. So, in a way, the damage may already be done, I see no reason why more details need to made public. He's a "Fire Control Technician", which pretty much means he knows everything about our attack subs' offensive weapons systems' capability. If he's found not guilty, hopefully more will be known, but I wouldn't hold my breath. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! downwardspiral 0 #6 August 4, 2006 When someone enlist in the US military they sign a contract that effectively negates the Bill of Rights in favor of the UCMJ. So regarding military personnel, the US military CAN do what it wants provided it is within the confines of the UCMJ.www.FourWheelerHB.com

nanook 1 #9 August 5, 2006 downwardspiral is mostly right; possibly 100% right as far as giving up some rights. Now in this guy's case, it is complicated due to the fact of the type of security clearance he needs to perform his job, which is high enough to it would be in the best interest to national security to make sure only those with at least Secret clearance can even look at him for the rest of his life(if he is found guilty). Just like the Walkers now._____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
Gawain 0 #10 August 5, 2006 QuoteOh fucking really - you sure of that sunshine? Yes, f*cking really. The UCMJ is one of the toughest legal codes in the western world. Those that volunteer for the armed services are told up front (before swearing in) that they are, in fact, giving up the very freedoms they are swearing an oath to defend. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! UCMJ is worded pretty vaguely. This one pretty much says it all>TITLE 10 > Subtitle A > PART II > CHAPTER 47 > SUBCHAPTER VII > § 836§ 836. Art. 36. President may prescribe rules (a) Pretrial, trial, and post-trial procedures, including modes of proof, for cases arising under this chapter triable in courts-martial, military commissions and other military tribunals, and procedures for courts of inquiry, may be prescribed by the President by regulations which shall, so far as he considers practicable, apply the principles of law and the rules of evidence generally recognized in the trial of criminal cases in the United States district courts, but which may not be contrary to or inconsistent with this chapter. (b) All rules and regulations made under this article shall be uniform insofar as practicable.I hold it true, whate'er befall; I feel it, when I sorrow most; 'Tis better to have loved and lost Than never to have loved at all. To avoid this being no more than a snide remark... I will add that your opinions on any of the subjects you introduce to SC may in fact be the opinions which achieve pure sense, align the planets and enable the manifestation of world peace. But this will require a bit more than a link and an edgy blurb. FallRate
