Downhill mountain biker suspended for T-shirt mocking transgender rider

There aren't thousands of cases in the US alone. Heck, there have only been around 8000 sexual reassignment surgeries done in the US, and the great majority of them were not married before the surgery took place.

Again, I'd recommend the book "She's not there" for some slightly better information on this topic.

I remember reading somewhere that most were done in Thailand and that there were something like 30-40 thousand in the U.S.. If you could post a link with a different statistic then I can say you know what your talking about, otherwise you are guessing.

I remember reading somewhere

That certainly makes it fact....

Do you ever finish reading posts? It might help in the need to ask so many questions. Here I will paste it for you to finish the paragraph again. The key here is that I don't say it for a fact and that I open up the possibility to actually reasearch and show some facts. Now read carefully. Its really a short paragraph.

See, in my world, Bill has proven many times over that he is a smart one and I can't recall many times he has had to retract a statement.

You on the other hand...well, let's just say one word: opposite.

In the mean time, I will take Bill's guess over yours.....even without a link.

I just chose to say that in one sentence....

Oh I get it. You really didn't have anything to add but wanted to show your personality.
You really didn't have to do it, I think you have made you troll like ways abundantly clear.
Well I hope you feel proud.

You guys are going off on a tangent here (not surprising this is SC) and if people want to talk about whether society should accept transgendered people and/or what happens to a marriage when someone gets SRS, maybe a new thread should be started. This thread should be about whether this woman (yes she is a woman even though she wasn't born female) should be allowed to compete in womens pro downhill mountain bike racing. The current Canadian governing body of her sport says she is allowed to compete since they've issued her a pro license (I'm not sure if there is a World Governing body to that sport and where it stands on the issue). But I do have the view that if enough of her competitive peers think that she shouldn't be competing, then maybe she shouldn't be competing (even though it appears that she has less testosterone in her body than genetic females have and maybe her peers need to be educated as to what sort of performance changes her body has been through since her transition).

I know one thing, I'm not good enough to compete in a womens pro downhill mountain biking race (even if I was female which I'm not). There's more to racing than one's gender. But if enough genetic female competitors think it's a bad idea for Michelle to be competing at this elite level, then maybe she shouldn't be competing. The decision should be made by her peers, not any of us.

Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I did a quick google on her name. It turns out that the governing body did actually revoke her licence a few years ago. However they then gave it back when she had her birth certificate changed to read female.
Do you want to have an ideagasm?

its simple really..

you ban the transgender racer for using "performance enhancing" substances aka Testestrone to gain a competitive advantage other 'natural' racers do not share...

The transgendered biker can wear a shirt that says, "Transgender cyclist and proud of it." But the other cyclist can't wear a shirt that says, "100% Pure woman" because that is directed at the transgenered biker and not a pride thing.

While I agree with that point of view I suspect it was the "100% Pure woman champion" that would have got the organisational bodies attention, because it infers that the person on top of the podium is NOT the champion.

Personally, I think any man who's prepared to surgically lose his balls to win a cycling race is probably quite competitive. Would you think "Ah! Now there's a way to be a winner!" to be an easy way to victory?

That's the thin end of the wedge. I'm sure a couple of the 20 odd people on the Formula 1 grid would have decieded that Michael Shumacher shouldn't be competing a couple of years back. No one likes to lose - especially if they do so profesionally. (Hi! My name is......... and I'm a professional loser!)

Sport governing bodies are the ones who get to choose - and in this case, they have.
