All countries have crazy ideas..... I understand that you cannt drink beer till you're 21...:D... how daft is that?

.

In all fairness, we (the US) experimented with lowering the drinking age to 18. (And I was part of the group that enjoyed the fruits of that.) The result was markedly more alcohol-related auto accidents among the 18-20 age group. Then, initially, a few states brought the drinking age back up. The result: alcohol-related auto accidents in those states in the 18-20 age group went back down. The rest was just momentum.

That's a good point.. but isn't reflected world wide... I guess that it depends how long the experiment ran for and how heavily the Police target drink driving offences.
Also, it doesn't actually matter what the legal age limit is for drinking... kids will get what they want, when they want (we did:$).

It just seems a bit more than crazy to me.. that you need to be over 21 to have a bevvy but you can go off and die for you country:(.... funnier still... you can get married but cannt toast your own bride:P

Historical note: In the US, the age of majority, and the drinking age, was 21 since at least the early 20th Century. Age 18-20 World War II vets who fought – and drank – their way across Europe and the Pacific weren't able to buy themselves a beer upon their return home. Anyhow, the voting age and legal age of majority in the US was lowered from 21 to 18 during the Vietnam War (in which so many US soldiers were conscripts), under the slogan "Old enough to fight; old enough to vote." Once that happened, lowering the drinking age from 21 to 18 in many states (not all) followed as seemingly logical. The increase of the drinking age back up to 21 has happened within, as I recall, roughly the last 10-15 years, as M.A.D.D. (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) started putting a lot of political pressure on US society to be more intolerant of drinking and driving, and upon state legislators to increase the drinking age to cut back on alcohol-related vehicular fatalities among youths.
