Knife Amnesty UK

Recommended Posts

So the police set up a knife amnesty, the idea is that you hand in all your knives and wont get charged. Sorry if i seem like a sceptic but a real criminal who is likely to stab someone isnt going to hand a knife in. Its an absolute joke.

"won't get charged" for what? owning a knife? are you serious? What about a piece of board with a nail in it?

Bananas?

I think the law says you cant carry a knife in the UK over 4inches but dont quote me on that. basically its ended up with a lot of knife enthusiasts handing in there stuff in fear of being charged. Every thing from cavalry swords to samurai. It just amazes me that they think this will cut knife crime!

4 inch blade. right?

Maybe they could try knife regisration, or maybe a concealed knife permit.:S

Is there a stabbing epidemic or something?

hey!!! get back in your left wing stereotyped box!!

you are instructed to support this, i mean it's about getting rid of weapons for honest citizens, and it is European, so it has to be correct

Bingo

23 people killed in 5 weeks in the UK through knife crime

I've seen the video where the young guy was attacked and a little later killed w/o any reason.

Let's take it like a move to "re-"move those weapons. Every step in the right direction is better than nothing. Over here, we're presently facing similar situations of violence amongst youngsters/kids/young adults. We should find out the reasons and look for solutions. Of course, removing knifes alone will only be a drop on a hot stone...... :S:S

edited to add: I really do appreciate observation cameras, we should have much more over here!

And when the home of an honest person who gave up his knives is burgled by one of these people im sure we'll all be saying it was a great idea.

Oh but lets not forget, in the UK you have to be practically dead before you can defend yourself without being prosecuted

will there be a pointed stick amnesty??

That's just a lame attempt by the vampire lobby. Nobody is taking it seriously.

I'm further right than Charleton Heston on this issue.

Any blade of length over x number of inches is illegal to be carried in public and you'll be nicked for being in posession of bladed article.

Any blade... and I mean any locking blade is illegal regardless of length. So small penknives are OK as long as blade doesn't lock into place.

Also remember that offensive weapon is a very broad term which covers any article adapted, made or intended for doing injury or damage. (not verbatim but good enough) This can include a baseball bat, a sharpened credit card, a screwdriver, a pole or pretty much anything. The onus is on the person to prove their intent of safe use of article. In this istance the police do not have to prove why it was going to be used as weapon.

Also be aware of weapons of offense (different to offensive weapon). These are items that may be used in the process of an offence. Such as rope to tie up a security guard or handcuffs.

Not to mention the firearms act preventing anyone carrying any firearm or any dispenser which discharges a noxious or toxic substance. This covers CS, pepper spray or similar items.

In short, in the UK, if your caught with absoulutely anything you can be nicked, even a bunch of keys. Police just try to apply common sense where possible and also arrest to pursue investigation. A copper will not interview you at side of road. You'll get thrown in 'the factory' and 'processed' until you can be dealt with adequately.

Hope that clears up the laws :)

By pure statistics it might cut knife crime - but I'll bet hammer crime increases.

Then the hammer amnesty program..... and round and round we go.

I think people are missing the real point we have a kinfe amnesty. Its not so much to get knives off nasty people. When someone is sentanced for being in posesession of such a weapon it will be brought up that they had ample oppurtunuity to surrender the item without facing prosecution adn they didnt. This will refleect in the punishment they receive. In short get caught with a knife from midnight tonight (when amnesty ends) your gonna get the fucking book thrown at you, and rightfully so.

I know that might seem odd. We try our best. I actually think volunteers like myself are more in tocuh with the real world than career coppers. Bit like the military, you become a bit detached and live in your own world
