I've never really been a Rush fan, or an O'Reilly fan for that matter... I think that they're pretty embarassing for conservative causes in many ways.

However, I think if you dig deep enough in anyone's closet, you're going to find skeletons, hypocrisy, scandal. We're human beings. We're prone to fuck up. Yes, they should be punished fairly if they've done something wrong, but should we really be standing around like vultures as we do waiting for their next car wreck? To me, that's just as bad as someone like Rush who rails against junkies who, himself, turns out to be one. "He who is w/o sin cast the first stone" and all of that...

Now before someone drags up old posts I made about Bill Clinton and his infedility, IMO, it's considerably different when an acting President of the United States -in office- does something scandalous versus the stupidity of a news entertainer.

I would agree with you, if it wasn't for the fact that Rush has openly berated many groups, but in this case more specifically junkies. All this not at neighbourhood parties but in a very public manner and to some quite offensively. Turn around is a bitch. If you give it like he does, you should be able to take it. Specially if you openly berate a group you secretly belong to....

But still, he's an entertainer. Who gives a shit. Must'a been a slow newsmaking day in liberal-land.

Yes, Rush Limpballs is an entertainer. Unfortunately, the trailer-dwelling poor white trash who champion him think he is an authority on everything.

Then why does he bother you so much? I think pretty much the same of Al Franken, but I don't see his name brought up nearly as much as Limbaugh.

Quote

Because I used to believe him. At some point I started to question his ideas - One day he was ranting that Tourette's was a made up disease, and just an excuse for children who wanted to swear all the time. Well, that did it for me. From that point on I questioned everything he said, because if he was speaking with such authority on something he was so ignorant of, what other bullshit was coming out of his mouth.

As it turns out, a LOT of bullshit.

You should question anything you hear from those who purport to "know" without any facts.

I occaisionally listen to him if I'm in the car going somewhere, but I don't feel let down when what he says turns out to be either slanted, misinformed or just BS. He does have some thought provoking views and therfore some entertainment value. So does George Carlin, for that matter, but I don't get upset when he's wrong and start calling him Kremlin or such.

I just noticed some have a more than healthy predilection towards emotional outrage and just wondered where it came from.

The uneducated, gullible people on the right who follow Rush do not see him as an entertainer - they see him as someone telling the TRUTH. They take what he says as gospel.

In that way he is a very powerful and influential person, and the extra scrutiny is warranted. And the fact that he is a GIANT hypocrite doesn't help him either.

Why, do you think that politicians are a higher form of human? Would you hold any random politician to a higher standard of morality than yourself? your doctor? you children?

or is it just more fun to bash those in the public eye for the same foibles as every man? (of course it is)

we are all just people....

Bill Clinton is just a person

At the time of his actions, he held a very important office.

That is a very important distinction.

You know, I have to admit that part of me deep down really agrees w/ you... there's part of me that just wants to step on him like the bug he is (there, I said it). I think we all hate hypocrisy. Yet I'm reminded of the phrase, "there but for the Grace of God go I..." There's a lot of wisdom in it and it certainly applies to me. I can think of many times that I HAVEN'T applied that, that I've pointed out how others have stuck their foot in their mouths, how they've preached one thing and done another... I find myself doing it all the time... we all do, that's my only point...

Rush's problem is that he stands high on a pedestal and does it... so, naturally, his fall is going to be farther... he'll fall far enough on his own, we don't have to debase ourselves in helping him plummet.

Ah yes... now all we need to do is hide the ballot boxes and make the pull-lever thingies harder for them to figure out!

Gee, I seem to remember Newt Gingrich, one of the heros of your cause, saying that Limbaugh was responsible for the republican majority in the house and naming him an "Honorary Congressman".

That must have also been Gingrich's gullibility. I'm sure he knows nothing about such matters.

The gullible and uneducated get to vote just as many times as the skeptical and educated -- and there's more of them.

you said that better than I did. I always like to find ways to mock the word 'enlightened'

Unfortunately, it too often is the case... sometimes I'm guilty of it as well, but I really try not to be. For example, I don't think that people that do not espouse my particular religious beliefs are going to hell. Also, some people who hold similar beliefs to my own do it for the wrong reasons and not out of critical examination or out of serious searching but rather b/c that's what their parents believed or what have you. I'd hardly call that "enlightened."

edited to add... also, something I was getting at, albeit w/ a little levity and sarcasm was that it's a shame that we feel we have to put down other people simply b/c they may espouse different beliefs than our own. i seem to recall a good many posts from billvon on just that topic that got me thinking about that very thing... people come to their own beliefs via many different paths and life experiences. i just think it highlights a fundamental flaw or immaturity on our parts that we need to somehow think we're superior to another person b/c their beliefs are different than ours. (rest assured, dear readers, I'm certainly including myself in this broad accusation, lest someone call me kettle!)

Rush is an entertainer.

And nothing more. Even though I disagree with him nearly all the time, I will still listen because he entertains me. I will turn off someone I agree with that I don't like to listen to.

Did anyone catch what he said about the Viagra on his show?
1. Can't understand how Bob Dole's luggage got mixed up with mine.
2. Got them from the Clinton presidential liabrary - they told me they were blue M&Ms.
3. Was talking to a friend who is a doctor and mentioned I needed to get ready for the next ELECTION.

Thats funny stuff. He has great writers.
