The curve is dramatically tied to the reverse calendar.

That was my first thought as well.

But then Kallend edited to add the point about the "Best" survey. It does NOT show the same recency effect you're speculating about. Isn't that odd?

I didn't see any "best survey" data just assume Kallend misread his own poll.

I'd rather just chalk this type of stuff up to people not caring much about history and just grinding whatever axe they have. Any poll that's current will be polarized.

Edit: you say "isn't that odd?" In retrospect, I don't think so. This poll is a "worst" poll - wouldn't psychology indicate that an anonomous poll where people complain would easily skewed to the reverse calendar. Whereas a poll that is positively phrase - a "best" pol would be very polarized and maybe get a bit more thought put into it?...... doesn't matter, I was more commenting on the bias of the post rather than the content of the poll.

You demonstrate your own point marvelously.

If I'm reading that correctly, that's an unfair personal assessment I don't deserve. I've spent the last few years in intense statistically heavy study roles. You can most most any type of poll and if the conclusions are abused, I'll trigger off (especially if it's a slow day at work)

I took two things only from this poll:

1 - there seems to be a time relationship that is statistically significant (I then muck about with the 'why's")

2 - Nixon and Carter stand out from the 'regression' as outliers

any other inferences are premature and neither correct or not until enough time passes to put them in context

You mean JFK wasn't they saint they make him out to be?

I would also like to point out that the DNC holds Kennedy out as one of our finest presidents ever, but the fact reamin he may have been one of the worst, and was a lousy skipper as well.

(No wonder Halsey wanted him keel hauled)

I do think that Kennedy was a fine president. Despite his personal transgressions, JFK did some very good things. If you look at the situation of the 60's, he made some colossal mistakes, like the bay of Pigs. But he also was firm in his dealings with the Soviets. The Cuban Missile Crisis was a close call, but had to be done the way JFK did it. JFK's speech in West Berlin predated Reagan's "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall." He cut taxes (actually proposed them before he was capped).

He did a number of things that I thought were sound.

Pardon the interruption

But what do the latest responses, aka who was the least incompetent US President, have to do w/ the posted hypothesis amd evidence at hand?

Are we or aren't we!?

I see your words from a different perspective entirely. This does not register as a political debate for me. I am still trying to decide how to interpret. Please give us another chance & a few more words to reflect on.

Guys...Please re-read the posts. There is a message here.

You seem to have missed something. There is a clear and distinct difference between evidence and argument. You have put forth argument without evidence, which is notoriously difficult to deal with. Hence, discussions take on their own life as argument begets argument. Without evidence to hold it together, what do you expect?

I think most of us realize that Bush is an awful president.
We voted him in but we all make mistakes. Kerry was a bad alternative at the time. If we could change the past we might. We were given two bad choices. In hindsight, I wish that I would have voted Libertarian. I assumed it would have been a wasted vote.
Given another chance... I think alot of people might reconsider their political affiliation.
All we can now do is work to improve the future. IMO

Nope, no fascism here. I'm in the U. S. Navy. . .I know Fascism. This is not Fascism. There is way too much personal freedoms. I look over the fence at the Good Ol United S of A and wish I can have their freedoms and have this job too.

Now Dr Britt and his column. . .calling out those 14 steps designed to let you make your own conclusions whether this is a Facist Country or not. . .on His own terms. Asking you if those guidelines remind you of anything familiar, but not saying if he thinks they are familiar; trying to get you to think like him. What a Fascist>:(>:(>:(>:(:P:P
