ryanocerous 0 #101 June 29, 2006 QuoteSo, forbidding business owners from allowing their voluntary patrons to smoke is "better". That sounds like an usurpation of private property rights to me. Let's see, the logic goes: smoking is bad for you, therefore we are going to make it illegal to do it in public. To continue with where this might lead: drinking alcohol is bad for you, ah, well, you draw your own conclusion with slippery slope reasoning... I think freedom dictates that we should let the market decide on this issue. If some enterprising bar owner wants to open a non-smoking bar, he'll be rewarded with lots of business. Government shouldn't be deciding it for everyone. It's not about smoking being bad for YOU, it's not only about smoking being bad for those around you, but very unpleasant to a non-smoker. The majority of the public are non-smokers, so why should we cater to the minority? These public smoking bans don't say you can't smoke in public, just that you can't smoke in public establishments. It would be common courtesy to go outside for a cigarette in the company of non-smokers anyways! Who wants to come home from a bar smelling like the Marlboro man? I don't have a beef against smokers, i just don't want to breathe the shit whenever i go out. You can always just stick some nicotrol patches all over yourself. Ooo i feel sooo wooooozy YAY! skydyvr 0 #102 June 29, 2006 QuoteCool. Figured they would be exempted. I support that. You remind me of the DEA agent that shot himself in the foot a couple years back. For the third time -- why are Cigars different than Jack 'n Marlboros? Have you no rational argument on this? . . =(_8^(1)

Amazon 7 #109 June 29, 2006 By alll means I have just the solution for you. Buy a SW Airlines ticket into Midway in Chicago. Once you are there you need to take the short hike north to 55th St and head east to Jackson Park on Lake Michigan. I am sure you will be able to find just what you are looking for from the locals there.

TheAnvil 0 #112 June 30, 2006 If you'd read the thread, you'd have found I already answered your question. Simon even responded here with some excellent points. You've yet to answer either of my questions. I'll answer for you since you don't seem to want to. 1) Are farmers bending their lives around you by not using DDT and using other pesticides? No, they are not. They're using different pesticides that are non-carcinogenic so people consuming their products are not exposed to carcinogens unnecessarily. Following the law - as smokers in CO soon will be when they aren't smoking in bars anymore. 2) What's the difference between someone spraying DDT into the air and someone smoking? Other than the by-products as discussed previously, not much from the point of the victims exposed to the chemicals - if the carcinogens were diluted into equal concentrations. There. Now I've answered my own questions. I feel better. CO will be a much nicer place to go out for a drink because of this. With the recent Surgeon General's report, I suspect more states, towns, cities, & municipalities will follow suit - for the improved health of all. JohnnyD 0 #113 June 30, 2006 Lunch today will be the last time I will have to put up with inhaling other people's smoke. Tomorrow, the air will be cleaner in CO. Interesting that we agree on this. May be a first.
TheAnvil 0 #114 June 30, 2006 Could be the first. I wonder how long it will take to get the stench out? I have a lot of friends who smoke - many of them very intelligent. I wish they would stop, but enjoy their company immensely nonetheless. One of the big shocks coming from CA to FL was that people smoke in bars here. Disgusting.
