I see that homicides are down in NYC, Chicago, Detroit and Los Angeles, though.

Next time all the New Orleans criminals head this way, we'll close Interstate-10 at the border, and redirect them north to Chicago.

No good deed goes unpunished. This is what we get for being so generous during a time of national disaster.

And all kallend can think to do with that news is bash Texas...

LA is a "shall issue" state so why would it have high crime to export, John? Your logic is appalling.

I guess the problem is all their guns were confiscated in NOLA before the folks came to Texas. That's bound to increase violent crime.;)

You have been trumpeting how gun ownership is increasing and that more guns = less crime for months. Yet violent crime is up in the US as a whole (NYC, Chicago, Detroit Los Angeles excepted, of course), not just in places that imported N'Orleaneans. So it appears that more guns = more violent crime right now.

Pretty pathetic really, attempting to blame it on hurricane victims.

John Lott has done multiple studies that show conclusivly that more gun ownership does equal less crime. While others argue with his research, his work has not yet been credibly refutted.

As for those that say they can not dupilcate his work John Lott has looked at thier work and blown there research out of the water.

are you TRYING to get kallend back into this? I just saw his ears pique at the mention of "scoff!" Professor Lott! :D He'll be in here in no time barking like a rabid dog about Lott...

but you know, all research and academics and statistics aside, it's just common sense, once you have shed all that liberal bullshit the media thrusts upon you. If more LAW ABIDING citizens are armed and are WILLING to stand up against lawlessness (most are, that I've seen anyway), crime will DROP.

and it has, on the whole, time and time again, in locations where state governments has acknowledged the natural (I'd say God Given) right of the populace to be armed.

Yes, i do believe it was Mathew 23:14:

"And Jesus unholsterd his .45 and shot down the pharisees. And with their blood being drawn and their lives no more, he did proclaim, "This bank will be taking no more deposits today."

Blessed are the cheesemakers.

24And upon seeing the moneychangers in the temple of God, JESUS did draweth his holy GLOCK and leveleth it upon their brows, saying unto them:

25"I am JESUS, the SON of GOD, and I say verily unto you that I shall count to five and see thou removest thyself from the temple. 26I shall not count to six; five shall be the number of the counting. 27Nor shall I count to four; excepteth that I proceedeth then unto five. 28The number of counting being five, and five being the number of my counting so reached, I shall riddle thee with large holes, thou being naughty in my sight.

29And the moneychangers did flee, and the LORD did grin.

Yep, it's that patheic.

With the way numbers can change, particularly homicides, between drafts and the final UCR publication, I wouldn't be at all surprised if it turns out that Chicago's murder rate actual goes up between 2004 and 2005. What would it take, maybe three deaths to be determined as homicides? or three beating victims to die and go from ag assaults to murder?

John, I have to tell you kallend is really reaching for his "gun control correlates with lower murder rates" argument. Meanwhile everytime we hit him with another simple, logical representation of gun rights correlating with a drop in major crime, he seems to disappear.

As much as death is tragic and all that, I would love it if three more were reclassified and the rate went up. Could you imagine his reaction then? :D

You are ALL wasting a lot of your time refuting an argument I have NOT made. Thank you.

Maybe if you all spent a few minutes reading what I actually wrote instead of writing long essays about what you think I wrote and what you think I may think if this that or the other happens, your time would be better spent.:P

Why not go and clean your guns?

I don't own any guns, nor have I ever owned a gun of any kind.

Perhaps you are confusing me with someone else or making it obvious you have a template for anyone who disagrees with you? :P

edited to add: I don't live in Texas either.

Nope. I once belonged to a gun club and support the right of individuals to own firearms. I just don't buy into the "More Guns Less Crime" mantra.

I'm pretty sure I've seen Kallend make the statement that he is FOR 2nd amendment rights and individual gun ownership. At least I think I remember that. And as far as the big ways in Texas go... I'm pretty sure SOME of the old fuckers here get along with him *Jim*... so I know he'll probably at least get invited to POPS!

That is correct in all respects. Texas POPS in 3 weeks! Hope Spaceland has A/C.

That is correct.

Yet in every gun thread in which he participates, the only kind of messages he makes are ones that are against guns or against pro-gun arguments. He virtually never makes any statements in favor of guns, or challenging anti-gun arguments. If he wanted to be intellectually honest, he would challenge statements he disagrees with on both sides of the argument. But he doesn't do that - he only argues against pro-gun statements.

Go figure. So I characterize him based upon the vast majority of his statements, and those are decidedly anti-gun.

You see things in such a black and white way you are apparently incapable of seeing grey.

I am absolutely against the government telling the people what they may or may not own - including guns.

I absolutely do NOT buy into your "More guns = less crime" mantra that you continually trumpet on here. You use every little incident in the UK to push your position, regardless of its statistical insignificance, yet take great offense when I turn the tables on you.

Can you hear me now? Is that clear?

And I'd just like to point out that I started this thread with a post that did NOT even mention guns. Others inferred a gun connection.

Holy Moses! You clearly represent exactly that part of Americans which where mentioned in another thread of SC.

Reading your text makes me think you must be kind of cave dweller, right?

Oh wait, perhaps I misunderstood: Beeing "full of BS" probably is a compliment??? :o which is used in your Sunday school? :S

I've made my position clear on that, and you are aware of it.

I don't think that more guns is responsible for less crime. Crime rates are independent of gun ownership rates. However, gun-o-phobes don't understand that. So, I post those kinds of stories, rather, to disprove the gun-o-phobe belief that "more guns = more crime".

Can you hear me now? Is that clear?

Yes, you're clever and coy like that. But we still understand that you really intended it as a slap at the gun-owning Texans in the forum. You just don't have the guts to come out and say it outright - you like deniability, because that way you don't have to defend your true intentions.

So humor me, and post a challenge somewhere to some anti-gun information, to prove your intellectual honesty in this debate, consistent with your belief in the right to own guns. Let's see if you can do it. I'm bettin' you won't.
