Violent crime UP in Texas in 2005

So humor me, and post a challenge somewhere to some anti-gun information, to prove your intellectual honesty in this debate, consistent with your belief in the right to own guns. Let's see if you can do it. I'm bettin' you won't.

I wouldn't have a chance, you'd be posting here microseconds after the data were announced. Why have a dog and bark myself?

I didn't say I couldn't do it. I said there's no point, since you appear to be permanently attached to the NRA web site and post its propaganda here in seconds. I provide a counterbalance.

Maybe you should do a search to see just how many gun threads you have started.

Not referring to this thread or your discussion with JR, but I find it interesting how few really recognise the counterbalance tactic. Some might call it trolling, but it's not exactly the same. It's a challenge to see how many words you can get someone to type in relationship to how many you have to type to get a long response and then how few words you can use to counter their response. I've noticed you use it quite often, as do I. B|

NRA is propaganda John?

oooh please do tell how you have determined that, using the scientific method of analysis.

Where did he say NRA IS propaganda? He said JR reports NRA propaganda on DZ.com (which is true, he does).

None of the gun information that I post here comes from the NRA. I post my sources, and if you were bothering to look, you would know that.

Once again you reveal your true anti-gun colors. You call it "NRA propaganda", when it's not. And then based upon that, you claim to only be providing counter-balance to something that isn't what you say it is. How nice. Is this your manifestation of "the truth"?

Why? Is there something wrong with posting a lot of pro-gun messages? Is there something wrong with posting a lot of anti-gun messages? Is there something wrong with posting a lot of pro or anti-anything messages? Sheesh.

Not at all, unless it's the same statistically insignificant BS.

Oh, how ironic that statement is. For you were the one bragging to the world that Chicago's annual homicide rate was DOWN (in all capital letters for emphasis), when in fact it was just one less murder than last year, constituting a reduction of only two-tenths of one percent. Was that "statistically insignificant bullshit" on your part?

And it's also ironic how you claim to be in favor of gun ownership, while categorizing every pro-gun message here as "NRA propaganda" and "statistically insignificant bullshit". Don't look now, but your true colors are showing.

The more you try to defend yourself, the worse you make yourself look.

You simply do not get it, do you? Take a look in the dictionary at the word "PARODY".

The best part of this thread is where the pro gunners take actual data and twist it around to say that the number of murders is down by only one and that it doesn't mean anything.

Then they turn around and claim that the increase in crime in texas is due to the influx of people from NO (who would be allowed to own a gun as well, don't think the rules are much different between Louisiana and Texas). Even though there is absolutely no research or data available to back up any part of that claim.

Then all these "great" minds stand around and pat eachother on the back....what a joke, too funny.

Oh, I like who's doing the twisting here:S

Anti gunners are the ones that said that murders were down in Chicago, pro gunners simply made the point we were only talking about 1 murder

Anti gunners are the ones that implyed that texas had an increase in crime and they can easily own guns, pro gunners simply stated what the local papers and police offices were saying about the crime increase and why.

Yep..........we need to keep and eye on those "great minds" you speak of.

Thanks for the entertainment though........

They would have gotten that one more murder but... they ran out of year!
It's really entertaining what can be done with statistics and a pencil.

Thanks for making my point again.....too funny...

Right, so actual data gets discounted, but anecdotal stories are a big hit.

Last time I checked local papers aren't always correct...hell most people in here usually go after the big national papers like rabid dogs claiming they are not truthful or acurate. Plus, last time I checked your average police officer wasn't trained for data gathering, never mind data analysis.

Those stupid cops, they have no clue whats going on in their city and why. All they can do is write traffic tickets and take lunch breaks.

Dude, you forgot the opening tag. There is no way what you just wrote there will validate without it.

Ah crap, that's right...

Oh well, it'll be funny to watch all of those IE browsers crash due to a simple broken HTML tag.:D

Actually, IE would probably devolve into "Quirks Mode" where it will make an assumption about what you wanted to write. Sometimes it might get it right. Most of the time though, it will make your margins 5000px and call the tag instead. But it will DEFINITELY NOT tell you that your code is incorrect. Instead, it will sit back and laugh as you try to figure out why GODDAMN FUCKING IE is acting all crazy.

Mozilla would probably balk and tell you code is not well formed.

can you tell what I do for a living?

;)

Yes, but only on Tuesdays.

HA! I knew it, you're a web designer.:D

Having lived in a college town for the past 8 years its amazing how many web designers and database programers I've met that work as Pizza Delievery guys and the such. The market is well beyond saturdated in this area with very very good and talented IT types. So the job markets suck, the pay sucks and if you want better pay and ask for it, you'll be let go since they can find another just like you to replace you just by throwing a rock sort of near campus. Whom ever it hits first gets hired and they're just as good or better then you are in your field.

I actually only have one job. And that is Web Application Developer. I spend far more of my time dealing with back end programming than designing what a page will look like. All of my work is databases driven. They are applications that just happen to be Web based.

When I think of Web Designer, I think of some who might know a little code but mostly works in Dreamweaver and is far more artistic than I.
