Own a Chemistry Set, Go to Prison

In this Wired News story, we see the unholy alliance of Political Correctness, "national security", and a risk-averse society combining to make a chilling effect that is actively discouraging young people from experimenting in science and chemistry.

From the story: "Taking chemicals and lab equipment away from kids who love science is like taking crayons and paints away from a kid who may grow up to be an artist.”

And we wonder why our education system is so dumbed-down.

In the past several years, the CPSC has gone after a variety of online vendors, demanding the companies require customers to prove they have a license to manufacture explosives before they can purchase any chemical associated with making them.

WTF?[:/]
Do you want to have an ideagasm?

Chemistry was very hard for me. The one thing I learned and to this day still remember that if you mix sodium and water together you get a nice boom out of it. :S
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

i hope they don't come by my garage - I have gallons of some REALLY dangerous chemicals in there.

GASOLINE.

If you weren't so obviously CONCEALING the gas in your CAR, you wouldn't have a thing to worry about.

They are secretly working their way towards gasoline too, with the rising gas prices. Its not the gas corperations that are raising the prices, its the CPSC! Soon no one will be able to ever afford it!

Manure, diesel fuel....... tide detergent and bleach...... so many everyday items, I don't know the mixtures or the detination devices required - don't care to, but the fact is that the controlling govs around the world need to back off becuase they can't control them all.

When you're a bully, they'll resort to using a 2x4 if they have to...... gonna outlaw wood larger than a 1x1? It's the attitudes, not the devices.

Have you ever seen a several pound chunk of white phosphorus?...people would shit if they knew what could be done with that.

Or a chunk of Na, Po, etc.

White phosphorus can be extracted from urine. That's how it was originally discovered, and why its chemical symbol is "P".;)

I propose the NSA should put surveillance cameras in all toilet facilities to foil potential terrorists.

And why would a chunk of polonium (Po) be especially scary?

Maybe they should rename them "Jesus Brand" chemistry sets, or something like that and advertise them as a faith based method of Christian home schooling.

Aside from that, blowing stuff up with a chemistry set is an American tradition that by now should be protected under the Second Amendment.
