Ex-Flying Squad leader John O'Connor speaks out.

Recommended Posts

John O'Connor (leader of the Met's Flying Squad in the 80's, during IRA activities) has suggested that the latest 'threat' to our security is less than that imposed by the IRA.. who caused more damage and injury.

So, how do we extract fact from spin?

Who's right (small R:P) and who's playing to public fear?

Personally I dont think there is a large threat to national security from these "extremists". A lot of it is benig used by the government to try and justify Iraq and by the police to get extra funding.

I believe that the police know the govt is playing us for fool and they in turn are playing the govt for fools as they know the govt can't turn round and deny them funding for the the "war" on terror.

Maybe I'm just a disbeliever as the sooner this threat of chemical attack goes away the sooner I wont be made to run round in a chemical suit wearning a gas mask. Assualting a building in full NBC gear as a "training" exercise is certainly not something that I want to do more than once a year. Blooming knackering it is.

In the future, if you don't like training please tell us all where to send flowers after your demise.

You get me wrong. I like the training and we do more than one training session a year. Its just the gas masks make it feel like you've run a marathon after 100 meters as its so hard to breath in them.

The reason we only do it once a year [in nbc kit] is if we were having to wear chemical suits to assualt a house the shite has really hit the fan and you do everything in your power to stay out of the chemical area. That and we have far more pressing things to train for like painting coal white [:/]

Your like my NBC instructor. I'm half expecting you to run over to me with 50 bottles of fullers earth and enough DKP to sink a battle ship.

Yeap it was beaten into me too.... Rock Apes(RAF Regiment) really get pissed off if you call stuff by it's wrong name.... Calling a gas mask... a gas mask, gets you a sniff test in the gas chamber.
Calling rounds, bullets is always another good one.. Dip shits.
