JohnRich 4 #26 June 8, 2006 Quote[see, here's the problem. One employee was likely doing something illegal. But likely, Bloomberg's initiative punished all the employees in the shop rather than just the one guy. So 3 people were unfairly accused to catch 1. At least they made it right after the fact. But the overreaction vs the correct reaction is the real concern. But, the crackdown did make some political hay. The apology and correction to the 3 innocent guys likely made some hay with the opposing side. So politically, it's likely a net win for Bloomberg for those that aren't watching the big picture. I agree with your "read" of the situation. The police overreacted for sure. If one guy made a questionable sale (and even that is in doubt), then they should just arrest that one guy. But instead they arrested three innocents along with him, and confiscated the entire inventory of the gun shop. That is totally unwarranted. But that's the way gun enforcement is often done. Imagine if one skydiver at your DZ made a jump with an expired reserve repack, and the FAA raided the drop zone, arrested all skydivers present, and confiscated all of their parachute rigs. That's the equivalent of what happened here with this gun shop. And you are also correct about the political ploy. Few will see this after the fact follow-up story. All they'll remember is how their hero, Mayor Bloomberg, is going after those evil gun shops. The publicity stunt also cost the gun shop tens of thousands of dollars in legal bills, I'm sure, so the gun-o-phobes consider that a positive result too, even though they'll lose the case in court. JohnRich 4 #28 June 8, 2006 Gosh, billvon, they're backtracking again. News:A second Big Apple gun store swept up in the city's crackdown on rogue gun dealers had hundreds of firearms returned by police, the store's lawyer said yesterday. Cops handed back 234 firearms to the Woodhaven Rifle and Pistol Range, after seizing the guns in an undercover sting on May 25. The turnaround came a day after cops returned 247 weapons taken from DF Brothers Sports Center in Brooklyn in the same sting. "This is a law-abiding gun shop. This is not some squirrelly Southern gun dealer trying to make money and is NRA-happy. They only deal with licensees," said John Chambers, the lawyer for the Woodhaven range...Full Story: New York Post Now the gun-o-phobes have shot themselves in both feet. I wonder what their next poorly aimed shot is going to hit?
