you have a right to protect yourself, i've got no problem with that.... but to go over the top and go killing people is just plain wrong

Yeah, cause you want to stab somebody just to wound them. Same goes for the cops. Who are they to no shoot to wound. Should a cop be charged with murder in self defence also? This guy was defending himself, what more do you want from him?
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

how do you know they were going to kill him?

How do you know they weren't?

a 17-year-old girl who jumped on him and a man who also attacked him.

Seems like they certainly had intent to do grave bodily harm or worse...

you might not have any intention of using it, but you know its mear presence is going to scare the shit out of most people and they will do exactly as you want them to

Sounds like a good reason to be armed, if someone broke into the house or tried to rob you...

i've been robbed at knife point in the red light district of Amsterdam (not by a girl with a cock either :P) and i complied and all i lost was a few guilders.... i hate to think what might have happened if i was some gung-ho rambo wannabe with a gun or knife in my pocket... i could have been stabbed before i had been able to use it... i suspect stabbing me would take less time than me fumbling around trying to get a gun out

Rambo wannabe? So what do you call the people who were trying to rob him at gunpoint. Innocent bystander?

So you acknowledge that the guns were at the very least intended to make the victim believe the attackers were prepared kill him.

In that case I don't believe the victim has any obligation to wait and see if they are bluffing or not. His personal safety comes first, they forfeited theirs when they threatened him with death.
Do you want to have an ideagasm?

He didn't just get a few guilders dood. He got the confidence to violate someone else. Think he won't? How do you feel about that?
What if his next victim is your sister, mother, or little brother?

I think you're just trolling here. If someone was to come after me like this I wouldn't hesitate to kill them. In fact, I would probably go after their entire extended family. Give up your bleeding heart bullshit here. The guy was defending himself. I'm happy the good guy is alive and well.

So, what other means of self defence do you propose when it comes to dealing with armed thugs?

i intend to hit them over the head with my umbrella

Unbelievable. So, you're going to let them decide where that line is? Oh, right. You have no choice. Can't be armed in your country.

Your culture and my culture are very different. I, for one, am thankful for that.

That's all well and good for you, in the land of drizzle, but I don't even own an umbrella, much less carry one with me. Good show, I say. Glad the bloke came off mostly unhurt, and I don't care a whit about the injured or dead criminals.

we'll never agree on this topic... you think Rambo was a documentry, we see it as the work of fiction that it was

Agreed. We live in very different cultures. I'm allowed to defend myself. You're not.

I simply don't see any connection here. Did you read this review in the Sun?
