miked10270 0 #4 May 28, 2006 My read of it is that the top of your investigation & prosecution system will resign if The FBI doesn't get to use the evidence they seized when they searched the office of a crook Congressman. The politicians don't like the idea of being searched, and if it turns out that they can be searched, then they're going to stop playing. I wonder WHY the politicians get so upset at the prospect of being investigated under the same rules as the people they govern!? If it's a purely criminal investigation then they shouldn't have anything to fear. Should they? Jefferson was caught fair and square in a criminal act. Now he's trying to pervert a law designed to protect him from political persecution to save him from a criminal prosecution! It's interesting to see who's supporting him, and from there... WHY! Mike. Andy9o8 3 #5 May 28, 2006 Although I don't particularly like Gonzales (due mainly to his crypto-fascist attitudes about potentially prosecuting reporters for publishing information leaked to them by whistleblowers in government -- [Anvil, I enjoyed our debate over that ] ), this is entirely different. As I said in the other thread, a Congressman - and his office space - are not above the law. The search warrant was supported by a 95 page long affidavit of probable cause, and was vetted by a federal judge before that judge signed it. I think if I was Attorney General I might threaten to resign under similar circumstances. Oh, I'd love to see Gonzales out, mostly because I think he's such a poster child for all the threats to civil liberties that have reared their ugly heads during this Administration - but not this way, over this issue. There are times when the Justice Department, the Attorney General and the FBI are supposed to be good, diligent cops. This time, I think maybe they were. Mate, its not mine. I totally agree with your analysis, I'm wondering why the OP thinks the Attorney General and FBI director should quit?Do you want to have an ideagasm? Andy9o8 3 #7 May 28, 2006 QuoteI'm wondering why the OP thinks the Attorney General and FBI director should quit? Basically, because he (Gonzales) is an asshole. Or at least is a threat to civil liberties. See my previous post.
