Gun-o-phobes Take Two to the Chest

Recommended Posts

Quote

The Un won't need to invade you we'll just use your own cops and army after the Anti Gun lobby has been supported to the

Gosh, now there's someone with an active fantasy imagination.

First, if the public overwhelmingly supported the anti-gun lobby, they would have already banned all guns. The NRA is only 4 million people or so, or only one out of every 65 people. So, since your fantasy hasn't, and isn't happening, that must mean that very few people actually support the anti-gun view of things.

And what makes you think members of the Army and Police are going to follow orders to go house-to-house, defying the 4th Amendment, and confiscating guns, while getting shot at in response?

Dream on, gun-o-phobe.

How wonderful it must be to live in a paranoid society.

Here we go again.

The idea you seem to be proposing is that because we own guns, we must be "paranoid" of being attacked.

A gun is just a tool that can be used for sport, and for self defense. Having one, doesn't make you paranoid, it just make you prepared. It's like a fire extinguisher, or a car air bag.

Are you "paranoid" because you have a reserve parachute in case your main parachute malfunctions? Or are you just "prepared"?

Why own a stamp collection?

Most gun collectors in the US just like the things. Despite appearances here, most americans who own guns don't think that they need to defend themselves from the hordes of people waiting to descend upon them when they are 'disarmed' - they just like owning it.

So then the obvious question. Why do you paranoid wierd Americans have to have so much disposable income - what's the point of 'collections'? :P

(and to another post about the "loudener" the guy was "Homer" and he's a nuclear safety technician. That episode, he was just an NRA member gone overboard.)

Why own a stamp collection?

You can only look at stamps. Boring! I'd rather have something I can take out and shoot.

They're mechanically interesting, and reflect a lot of history. For example if you want to understand what a "mad minute" was with the British shooting their Enfields rapidly in combat, you can just read about it, or you can take a rifle out and do it. I'd rather do it.

Hurricane Katrina has created a whole new class of people who respect the protection of a gun when the thin veneer of civilization breaks down into anarchy.

I would like to add that suppressors should not only be legal in all of the 50 states and US territories but MANDATORY when possible....

Yes, that is a law that needs to be changed, but it should be optional, not mandatory. In most countries, sound suppressors are considered the polite way to shoot. Yet here in America that's a 10-year prison sentence, unless you go through the great hassle and expense of registering the darned thing. And in the meantime, neighbors bitch about all the noise at shooting ranges. Doh! If we made suppressors legal, they'd become cheap, we'd eliminate most of the noise complaints, and everyone could be happier - both shooters and non-shooters.

This just about confirms my theory guns are for some replacements of part of the human anatomy.

Case solved.

Micro do you live in such an area where you feel it's necessary to defend your family with guns?

Yes. But it's not a ghetto or even a high crime area. Crime happens everywhere. And as I said earlier, it is my responsibility as a husband and father to protect my family. It is a duty I take very seriously. Look at the abduction/rape/murder cases in the past few years... esp. involving children... some in cities, often though they took place in rural areas, such as where I live. The location of my residence is not the reason for my decision to own a gun. The fact that there are loonies out there who may do harm to me or my family is the reason.

Quote

What about when the children are at school?

We homeschool our children, as do the families of our friends. We have no need to fear things like Columbine.

Quote

If you work away from the family, do you take it with you to work?

I work from home. However, when I travel away from home for business, it's a huge hassle, so the guns stay home. (Don't worry, wifey knows how to use 'em)

Quote

Perhaps in area's in Iraq, or Chechnya for example, there is a clear reason. But America? Land of the IfeelsothreatenedIpackiron?

Just seem's all a bit mental. Sorry

Again, you miss the point. Sure, places like Iraq and Chechnya demonstrate to someone reasonable like you the profound need for law abiding citizens to own -and safely use- firearms. But here in the safety of the US? I say yes... there are countless occurances of crimes that were thwarted b/c a would-be-victim produced a gun and the would-be-assailant fled. In fact, one such event happened to a poster here on dz.com not too long ago. Also, there are heinous crimes occuring in the US! Rapes, murders, abductions, child molestations, home invasions. It's not Chechnya, but try to tell someone who suffered such a fate to just relax and calm down, it's not like they were raped by Chechyn soldiers! It may be more infrequent in this country, but the crimes are no less violent to the victim and should be defended against no less vigorously.

Court cases on the local, state and federal level in the US have stated time and again that the police do NOT have a responsibility to protect individual persons from crime. They simply cannot be in every place at every second of every hour. And by the time a crime is being committed and the victim or a witness can call the police, by the time they arrive, they are usually just taking an incident report or tagging a dead body. It takes minutes (or LONGER) for the police to respond to a violent crime. It only takes me seconds to produce my firearm and either disuade a criminal from further action or to neutralize any threat.

What would you do?

Me thinks you haven't had much range time, have you? There is scarcely an anti-gunner around who, after going to a shooting range and target shooting, has maintained his predjudicial leanings and vexacious delusions.

You can lick em, and stick em on an envelope and it will go all the way across the country! Amazing. (Or boring, depending on your likes and dislikes.)

So do stamps!

You certainly make your point - what I'd do is move somewhere else where I didn't feel my family was so threatened.

I'm surprised you home teach as do your friends. I'm aware some incomprehensible murders took place at school's in the U.S. - but you feel this is such a threat you feel it necessary to home teach!?

That's a real shame.

Is this home teaching becoming more common then?

I'm sure some crimes have been averted through gun ownership - but far,far more have been initiated through gun ownership.

I don't know - in it's simplistic form I see people with gun collections being a bit weird is all.

Im British - takes one to know one, what?;)

Wouldn't you rather taser an assailant rather than blow his brains across the street?

The power of owning a gun, and the finality of force can be dangerously seductive.

How many gun owners cant wait for that intruder to arrive to kill him?

The whole thing is wrong

Just to make the point clearer......

This opinion I have is derived from PROFESSIONAL "range time."

And it wasn't always a soddin' range.

Now go and stand in the corner, silly boy;)

I don't think you read my post very well... there are threats NO MATTER where you live. We live in a safe area now (used to be in a big city) and so I no longer where the gun on my body, but it's always fairly close by. Here in the country, our threats are more likely from wild animals than humans, but we have an occasional meth lab out here, so who knows?

We don't homeschool our kids b/c of violence in schools... that's actually just a secondary benefit. Homeschooling is very common in the US. My wife is/was a teacher, did it for many years, in both public and private schools, and saw how incredibly fucked up the students were and how poorly the system does.

I'm not chomping at the bit to blow someone away, which is what you seem to imply. I hope the day never comes. But I'm certainly ready. Better a criminal than one of my innocent children.

As for tazers, you have to get more "up close and personal" to the perp, something that makes YOU more likely to be injured.

Well, do a quick study for us "crazy US cowboys." Go to a range, and measure the penis size of every male shooter, if you dare. Compare to yours, report back. We'll be here, waiting.

So why carry a handgun? (Edited to add: shit range)

Ever fired it under fire yourself?

Perhap's - but probably not.

I'd love to see your grouping accuracy fired under pressure from 10metres, nevermind 25.

Don't give me any of your range time crap and achievements either.

I've worked with your professional's where they've been "under pressure."

I'm lucky to be alive because your nation's professional's were "under pressure."

This is actually winding me up now.

So I won't let it!

Fuck it.

All the best.

There is scant legal cause for firing at 25m - even at 10m it could be sticky in a state like California, even though at that range one is at serious risk.

as for winding you up - your notions of positive versus negative usage aren't supported by the facts.
